McDonogh's Spivey set to play at Maryland
McDonogh soccer standout Ashley Spivey, a two-time first-team All-Metro forward who is entering her junior year, has made a verbal commitment to play at Maryland.
Spivey, 16, has 45 goals and 26 assists in her first two seasons at McDonogh. A member of the U.S. Under-17 national team, she was a starting midfielder that helped U.S. win the Nordic Cup earlier this summer in Denmark.
Spivey decided on Maryland on Wednesday and said it was an easy choice.
"I'm really about my state and supporting where I came from. I grew up in Maryland and been here all my life, so I don't think I could have gone anywhere else. Family is very important to me as well, so I'll be close to home," she said. "I visited and fell in love with it, so there was no need to look anywhere else. It's a huge relief -- I'm happy and excited."

I love Coach Pensky. He has done a terrific job at MD and things keep getting better. I am very excited to cheer for this young lady as she finishes up HS and moves on to Maryland. Great choice. Go Terps!
