Poly tennis player primed for regionals
Eric Jarkowski will enter the state’s regional tennis championships Thursday on an impressive winning streak.
The Poly junior is the reigning Baltimore City champion, having recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over City’s Evan Singleton last week. It was Jarkowski’s third consecutive city singles title.
Jarkowski was undefeated for the Engineers (9-0) this season, dropping just three games all year. He finished third in regionals in 2009. To reach the state tournament, Jarkowski needs at least a second-place finish this year.
Engineers coach Wade Gibson said Jarkowski , who hopes to play tennis in college, has an obvious passion for the game.
“He’s just focusing on tennis,” Gibson said. “He used to play baseball. He had a decision to make last year and he chose tennis. I’m glad he did.”
