17 local girls named Under Armour lax All-Americans

The rosters for the fifth annual Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Classic were announced Monday and 17 Baltimore-area girls were honored.

Sixteen of the girls will play on the South team in the Classic, July 3 at Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University. One, St. Mary's goalie Lyndsey Munoz, will play for the North.

Munoz ended up on the North team, because the South had too many good goalies, according to Ryan Heacock, the event director for the Classic.

"With the goalies, we take the four best goalies. Three of the best four goalies were from the Maryland-Virginia area, so the way of thinking is one girl's going to Stanford, so we decided to put her on the North team," Heacock said.

The rosters, made up of all seniors, were selected by the Inside Lacrosse staff, Heacock said.

Munoz will be familiar with a lot of the players she will face on the North squad, because she has played against most of them, including three girls from the No. 1 McDonogh team, which went 20-0 and won its second straight IAAM A Conference title.

McDonogh was the only girls team with three players selected -- attacker Hannah Franklin, midfielder Margaret Smith and defender Taylor Virden. Eagles coach Chris Robinson will coach the South team.

The other local players selected:

Barb Black, St. Paul's, goalie
Liza Blue, Garrison Forest, midfield
MacKenzie Cyr, Winters Mill, attack
Taylor George, Broadneck, midfield
Natalie Glanell, South River, defense
Beth Glaros, Wilde Lake, midfield
Brooke Griffin, South River, midfield
Paige Hanson, Bryn Mawr, attack
Meghan Helm, Notre Dame Prep, defense
Sarah Lloyd, Severna Park, midfield
Adrienne Tarver, Park, midfield
Courtney Tomchik, Broadneck, midfield
Amalie Trentzsch, Winters Mill, midfield

Congrats to all the girls !
Severn, Spalding & St. Mary's play in the toughest conference and no one from the IAAM in Anne Arnudel County made the South team ? That is a 1st. Include Hannah Hook as one of the best goalies in MD.

Way to go Taylor George!
Athlete of the year!
