Former McDonogh soccer goalkeeper Alex Horwath, a 2005 grad who helped the Eagles capture the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship in his senior year, has signed a contract with Major League Soccer as a pool goalkeeper.

Horwath, who was a three-year starter at Wisconsin after starting his college career at Connecticut, is based in Kansas City training with the Wizards although he's not on the team's 24-man roster.

The MLS signs pool goalkeepers to ensure that teams have backup goalies for emergency situations such as injury or suspension. Although he is in Kansas City, any other MLS team can pick him if needed.

Horwath completed his college career at Wisconsin last fall, registering 17 shutouts and posting a 1.19 goals-against average.
