Key boys hoops everywhere

High school basketball fans will have no shortage of big games to watch later this afternoon.

In addition to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs getting underway, there's a number of public school games with important implications as the regular season comes to an end this weekend.

In Baltimore City, defending Class 1A state champion and No. 4 Digital Harbor hosts No. 9 Edmondson at 5:15 p.m. with a berth in next week's Baltimore City championship game on the line.

The winner will meet defending champ and No. 5 Lake Clifton at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan State University.

In Anne Arundel, the county championship and a berth in next week's District V championship game (vs. Howard County's first-place team) is still up for grabs with No. 7 Annapolis, No. 10 Arundel and No. 11 Old Mill all having just one county loss.

A decisive game to see how it all plays out takes place at Arundel, where the Wildcats will entertain Old Mill at 5 p.m.

In Howard County, Hammond is 12-2 in county play with a one-game lead over River Hill, who is 11-3 in league play.

The teams meet at River Hill today with the opening tip set for 5:15 p.m. Teams still have additional games to play through Saturday.

The District V championship is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Arundel.
