Caringi III to play for Caringi Jr.
Calvert Hall soccer standout Pete Caringi III considered a couple of other schools, but when it came down to it, there was no question where he would be playing his college ball: UMBC under 19-year coach Pete Caringi Jr.
"It's kind of what I've wanted for a while," the younger Caringi said. "I play my best when I'm in comfortable surroundings, and I've been on the sidelines there since I was 6. It's a good fit for me."
Caringi, who scored 14 goals and added six assists in his senior year at Calvert Hall, has never been coached by his father, aside from a rare occasion when the latter filled in for a club coach during a practice or game.
The Retrievers return nearly everybody from last year's team that qualified for the NCAA tournament. Caringi III is familiar with the returning players and is looking forward to just fitting in.
"I expect it to be hard, and I've already been training. I just want to play the best I possibly can for him," said Caringi III.
