Severna Park's Emily Lloyd brought home her usual cache of gold from Saturday's state Class 4A-3A swimming championships, but lost among the medals were a couple of swims that would have beaten the boys.

Her split in the 400-yard freestyle relay -- 48.9 seconds -- was faster than the winning time in either of the boys 100 freestyle races -- Class 4A-3A (49.02) or Class 3A-2A-1A (49.26).

The senior wasn't too happy with that relay in which she swam the anchor leg only to see Urbana touch just ahead of her. The Falcons finished in 3:40.93 to Urbana's 3:40.69. She felt better when she heard her split time after the race.

"That's pretty crazy," she said. "I was a little disppointed because I didn't catch the team next to us. I didn't think I was going that fast. I was pretty happy when I heard that."

If you don't think that counts because it was a split time. How about this? Her time in the 200 freestyle (1:52.69) would have won the boys Class 4A-3A race. Just barely ahead of the guys' winning time of 1:52.70, but ahead of it.

Those unique moments closed out a stellar high school career in which Lloyd won the maximum of eight individual gold medals. She also contributed to six relay titles and holds individual meet records in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestyle as well as the 200 free and 200 medley relays. In her four years, she helped the Falcons to three state Class 4A-3A team titles.

Saturday, she brought home two individual golds -- the 50 freestyle and the 200 freestyle, both in meet record and All-America times -- one meet-record relay gold, one relay silver, two times that would have beaten the guys and she contributed to another team title.

Not a bad day --or career -- in the pool for Lloyd, who will swim next season at Virginia.
