Fourth quarter: Ravens-Browns
Refresh your browser for updates.
How they scored
Browns 27, Ravens 13 -- Steve McNair hit tight end Quinn Sypniewski for a 4-yard touchdown with 7:14 left in the game to reduce Cleveland's lead. Sypniewski is in the game because both Todd Heap and Daniel Wilcox have been injured. The Ravens' drive went 85 yards on 13 plays and lasted 6:27.
Thumbs up
• McNair set a career high with his 33rd completion. Note: This could probably be in the "Thumbs down" section, considering McNair had to attempt more than 50 passes with the Ravens trailing all game.
• Willis McGahee made a nice block picking up a blitzing Browns defender on the Ravens' touchdown. McGahee has had a good game, rushing 14 times for 104 yards.
Thumbs down
• When the Ravens were attempting to come back down two touchdowns, they were hit with back-to-back penalties, one on McNair for intentional grounding and the other on Jason Brown for a false start.
• According to television reports, Todd Heap is out of the game because of an injured hamstring, and Daniel Wilcox is on the bench because of an injured foot. Quinn Sypniewski is in the game at tight end.
• Bart Scott dropped what appeared to be a sure interception early in the quarter. It looked like he would have had plenty of running room and could have possibly gone the distance if he made the pick.
• According to the CBS announcers, the Ravens have been in Browns territory on every drive today, but they've only managed to muster six points.

Comments
This is the final nail on the coffin that pretends to be Raven football. With McNair, the offense is so hamstrung by his inability to pass over 20 yards that they are incapable of going the length of the field before screwing up. The defense is overrated and obviously a step or more slower. The Browns just did what other teams have waited until the 4th quarter to do. Special team mistakes always kill you ... but this has been an all around poor effort by everyone on the field. Obviously the Ravens are the worse team - no excuses!

Man I can't wait until Tuesday when the Sun's MIKE PRESTON talks about the game and defends McNair and will bash Boller left and right. It's going to be an interesting Tuesday.

BILLICK SHOULD BE FIRED. TI IS THE FOURTH GAME OF THE SEASON AND HIS FOOTBALL TEAM LOOKS LIKE CRAP. HIS HEAD IS NOT IN THE GAME AND HIS TEAM IS UNPREPARED.

Across the board they were awful, except for McGahee's play.
It was worse than watching the Orioles...at least they usually have some fight in them. This team never got off the plane.
If the Ravens can't fix the defense, it's going to be a long, long season.
No pressure, no penetration, bone-headed secondary plays...too many repeat offenders...and please tell me why Gerome Sapp would ever be assigned to cover Kellen Winslow ?
Is Rex Ryan actually watching this?
Thank God the Phillies/Nats game was televised.

This Ravens D has survived injury, old age, and some key departures over the years (Adams, Hartwell, Baxter, Demps, etc.) But the combination of the three is just too much to bear, it seems. They're either too young and raw, or past prime at many key spots. The injury to Trevor Pryce has hurt their ability to create a strong pass rush. And clearly, Adalius Thomas was a bigger key than anyone could have envisioned.
I honestly think they will put up better performances than this. But the simple truth is, this defense is no longer the force that can move heaven and Earth.
Now that that's been said... how 'bout that offensive play-calling and execution? *roling eyes*

WHY IS MCNAIR STILL THE QUARTERBACK?HE HAS BEEN INCONSISTENT FOR THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF.PLEASE DON'T MAKE EXCUSES LIKE HIS GROIN IS BOTHERING HIM BECAUSE LAST WEEK HE SAID HE WAS FINE, ALSO BILLICK SHOULD BE FIRED ! WHY, BECAUSE IT ALWAYS SEAM TO TAKE HIS TEAM SIX TO EIGHT GAMES TO CET IT TOGETHER.SO BASICALLY HIS TEAM IS NOT PREPARED AND FAUGHT IS THAT.... THE HEAD COACH'S

I still say Kelly Gregg is too small to be a nose tackle and his lack of pocket pressure in the trenches, now that Pryce is out, is killing this defense, and just like 2 years ago, the whole D is back to being pushed around and is run dead by the 4th quarter. Gregg is strong. He was a wrestler. Great. Give me a Cheeto eating 400 lb monster guys that have to run around and cannot run through so that Ray Lewis and the backers have time to build up speed and make tackles, so that the secondary doesn't have to run so much and for so long. Gregg should be a DE, not a tackle. Good guy, good tackler, wrong position. McNair lacks arm strength and is getting old. He, like Billick, is living on reputation. Boller, oddly enough, was forced into a losing situation by being pressed into duty too early in his career as starting QB for a contending team by a stubborn overrated coach, a team that lacked a veteran quarterback, and now is being held from leading his team to the post season by an aged stubborn overrated veteran quarterback who would rather play hurt and hurt his team than step aside and let a competent healthy QB win a game the team should have walked away with. Who cares if McNair's ego is hurt when he's benched if it means a W? Ego has killed this team for the last 5 years from the Head Coach on down. Boller was demoted, never said a word, and worked harder to get better. Give me the Boller's, Heap's, Mason's, and Clayton's of this world. No more big mouth no playing garbage.

How is this a Boller v. McNair game; neither one would've made long throws against a defense that is playing solely deep coverage on EVERY play. Clearly the defense should first and foremost take ALOT of the blame for this one (how many times did the Browns punt? I think close to zero). Then, when there are no more underneath passes to be made because you are so clse to the goalline, Billick can't scheme to get it in there. McNair, save 1 pick, didn't look that bad. McGahee looked great, and yet Billick isn't able to put in more of a coaching effort in the x's and o's category to create reciever mismatches.

With the exception of McGahee, the entire team looked terrible. Boller should start, not McNair. Rex, what's happened to our Defense? Why did we pay $4M for McGahee if we don't fully use him? If we can't beat Cleveland, what's going to happen when we play Squeelers, Indy and Pats? I'm concerned
