Terps make the cut for Mitch McGary

The Maryland men's basketball program is still in the running for Brewster (N.H.) Academy center Mitch McGary.

According to ESPN.com's Dave Telep, McGary has narrowed his list of schools to six: Duke, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Maryland and Michigan.

"I stayed low in July but I talked to coaches on Facebook and stuff like that," said McGary. "Some of the schools like Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky, they've got great coaches there. I like Michigan and Maryland in the rebuilding stage and they gave me good vibes. Florida's pretty good and they do a lot of similar things with guys like me who are versatile."

Interesting quote. Here's how I interpret it. 'If I want to go one and done, it's Duke, NC or KY for me. If I want to go 4 years (not likely) maybe I'll give MI or MD a chance. If I want to party in the sunshine for a little while with no real academic demands I might go to FL.' Sounds like he's off to KY or Duke IMO.

Yaaaaaay! Top 6! Wooo HOOO! That'll make it feel better when he's bulling over our 6'4" post players while wearing blue. Just put us out of our misery already.

Special Ed
"Just put us out of our misery already." While I agree that McGary won't choose MD in the end, I'm happy to see that a guy of McGary's caliber didn't dismiss Turgeon or MD's start-over-again status as unworthy of consideration. Turgeon and assts are learning from this process too and will bring in bigger fish than the MD faithful have been accustomed to. We're not talking year-in-year-out UNC/Duke types of classes, but talent that should keep MD at the top 3 of the ACC, in the dance, and a regular face in the Top 25.

one thing is certain - i never underestimate the opportunity to be part of something special. remember a few players put MD back on the map (walt williams, keith booth) ... the right person can and will be remembered a very long time. we'll be watching his tapes long after he is gone on.

hope mcgary has the "right stuff".
its a heck of alot more exciting to build something special vs the run-of-the-mill programs,
