Weekly recruiting roundup
The Maryland men's basketball program continues to expand its list of 2012 targets.
This week Robert Carter, a five-star prospect from Thomasville, Ga., reportedly made an unofficial visit to College Park.
CBS Sports profiled Carter earlier this week. The 6-foot-8, 245-pound power forward already has a lengthy list of interested schools involved.
He currently holds offers from a number of schools, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ohio State and Virginia Tech. Most of the ACC and SEC schools are on his trail as well.
• The Washington Post wrote this week about the ultra-competitive recruiting landscape in the D.C. area thanks to several notable coaching changes. Gonzaga (D.C.) point guard Nate Britt appears to be a prime target for the new Terps staff.
As for Britt, he said he enjoyed meeting with [Maryland coach Mark] Turgeon and sees him as someone he could play for. Maryland is far from the only suitor for Britt, who was among the most impressive point guards at the NBPA camp. He said Villanova, Pittsburgh, Arizona and UCLA have also already offered scholarships. But with new assistants in place throughout this area, it may be harder for schools to poach talented prospects from this region.
• The Louisville Courier-Journal checked in this week with DeMatha center Bee Jay Anya.
The 6-foot-7, 285-pound Anya is ranked as one of the top centers in the class. He also lists Maryland, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Miami, Duke, UCLA, Texas and Syracuse.
Football recruiting
• The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday that Maryland picked up a commitment from Luella (Ga.) High defensive back Alvin Hill.
Hill auditioned for a scholarship at Maryland’s camp on Tuesday, performed so well he was offered within an hour afterwards, and committed to the Terrapins on Thursday. He’s the younger brother of Virginia Tech cornerback Detrick Bonner.
Check back with Recruiting Report later for more on Hill's commitment.
• Bishop McDevitt (Pa.) linebacker Brock Dean committed to the Terps on Friday morning, according to PennLive.com.
“A lot of guys who went through the process all told me once you get on campus you'll just know,” said Dean, who had 93 tackles in 16 games as a junior. “All three times I visited Maryland's campus, I knew.”
Check back with Recruiting Report later for more on Dean's commitment.
• Maryland-bound offensive lineman Evan Mulrooney and running back Brandon Ross participated in Delaware's Blue-Gold Game on Saturday night.
Ross started at tailback, gaining 11 yards and nine yards on the Blue's first two plays Saturday.

Can't wait to see how the 2012 basketball class shapes up, with 6 possibly spots open, they will have a massive class. So far, they seem to be on the radar for a lot of quality players, which is different from year's past.

Two questions for you, Matt:
1. How realistic do you think it is we land both Cleare and McGary?
2. Any news on combo guard Christian Sanders out of Texas? I believed he visited campus.
Thanks!

Josh: Hard to say on landing both. I obviously think Cleare is a safe bet at this point, but I think it's still too early to tell on McGary. On Sanders, I've been playing phone tag with his coach. I'm hoping to have something early next week. -- Matt

If Maryland signs in the Class of 2012, Robert Carter, Seth Allen, Chriatian Sanders and Cleare then 2013 Sign, Chris Walker, Britt, Harrison Twins, and Bee Jay Anya. This will put Maryland Basketball on the map again... Matt what you think about these 2 classes and what percent do think this will happen. Who will they sign first in July. Thanks Matt in advance i value your opinion.

Coach Hall: Carter would probably be a tough pull, just because he's from the south and he can pretty much go anywhere. For 2013, I don't know if they'd be able take the Harrisons and Britt. It's probably one point guard or the other. The Harrisons have the Baltimore connection with their father, but I wouldn't say Maryland's the frontrunner or anything like that. The good thing is Turgeon is casting a very wide net, so while it's tough to predict how the classes will shake out, they should be pretty highly rated groups. -- Matt

Yes Harrison father played for me and Ranson I coach Hill and Demarr Johnson at the And 1 camp New Jersey. I think they should go after all 3 and if they have to play all three together 3 guard offense. Delonte is good in the south in getting ball players I think he can pull it off and if he does i really think Walker will follow and isn't he the top player 2013. Whats new with A. Car from Patterson. Sam Cassell Jr. Just to give you a heads up there is a Prep school in West Virgina that is recruiting 3 of the Douglass BB players. Dwanye Brewer is my God son and his father told me of the news. If you like to know more we can talk and I can give you his fathers number(Stepfather) if you like. Anything new on Turk (Kieth Booth)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Coach Hall: Good stuff. Britt and the Harrisons would be unreal. I'll have to check on Carr and Cassell Jr. Shoot me an email on the Douglass guys. Thanks. -- Matt

I wouldn't care for the Harrison Twins they are one and done players.. Plus if we get Britt we wouldn't need the twins

Everything I have seen recently is regarding the 2012 or 2013 class. Any chance of picking up a solid big for 2011 or any JUCO bigs on the radar for 2011? I am excited about 2012 and on, but the lack of depth in the front court for this coming season is concerning. Thanks Matt.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brogdaddy: I haven't heard of any JUCO possibilities for 2011. Really slim pickins' at this point. -- Matt

HEY Matt now that we have a very good Lb in Brock Dean committed, what are Terps chances with his team mate Spence?
--------------------------------------------
Obafemi: It certainly doesn't hurt. I'm not sure if it puts Maryland over the top, but it definitely helps the chances. -- Matt

any word on Aquille Carr from Patterson? is it true he's going overseas after high school?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alex: Nothing new to report. From what I've heard, that overseas offer thing was wildly exaggerated. -- Matt

I think and I do not mean to make a lot of reader mad BUT, if MD go after Robert Carter real strong for 2012 make him a got to have for our team an promise him a NCAA championship in two years if he bring Chris Walker in 013 they will have that national championship. MD has to have these two player.
"Matt"
If you know Bball you know I'm right..
GO AFTER CHRIS WALKER, it mite be to late for Robert but not Chris.
