Weekend wrap – Notes on Allen, Anderson, more
The first recruit of the Mark Turgeon era received some time in the television spotlight this weekend.
Fox 5 in Washington profiled Fredericksburg (Va.) Christian point guard Seth Allen in this video feature. The future Terp discussed his Maryland commitment, Turgeon's coaching style and much more.
Meet Seth Allen, Terps Head Coach Mark Turgeon's First Recruit: MyFoxDC.com
• Daily Press (Va.) reporter David Teel spoke to Justin Anderson on Saturday, but the Montrose Christian small forward was tight-lipped about the status of his recruitment.
Is Maryland still possible?
“We haven’t really talked about it or eliminated anyone,” Anderson said.
• InsideMdSports.com offered a free update Friday on Houston center Shaquille Cleare.
“[Maryland is] definitely still at the top, along with about five schools he’s narrowed it down to," [Cleare's high school coach Don Harvey said]. "Coach Turgeon just talked to him and let him know he was there, which he knew from watching the news and things. He let Shaquille know they still want him, and Shaquille let him know they’re still at the top.”
• Former Maryland forward signee Martin Breunig was scheduled to fly home to Germany on Sunday. HeardThisBlog.com reported that Breunig doesn't have any college visits scheduled for when he returns to the U.S.
“He’s a little confused right now,” [St. John's Northwestern Military Academy coach Brian] Richert said, “and he hasn’t really had a chance to sit down with his family [to talk about his decision]. It should be a quick decision after he does.”

Comments
Am I correct in assuming that if a school releases an athlete from their LOI, that the school is not bound to offer a scholarship again should the athlete again chooses the school? Is it in Turgeon's best interest to re-offer the scholarship to Breunig, or to keep it available to use in 2012 with players that he and his staff recruit to fit in the new system?
Ellicott Hall: You are correct. Maryland doesn't have to re-offer the scholarship once the LOI release is granted. It appears that Turgeon is not pursuing Breunig. -- Matt

I've seen some of the Tweets on JA's account over the weekend by Terp Nation. I'm impressed at how supportive they are ofhis decision, and how positive they've been. It's a nice touch, and certainly more appropriate than the "Let him go..." comments made about some other recruits as they pulled out of their commitments. ANY SMART KID would pull out for at least a short period to reassess, even if they take a chance to fall out of favor of the new regime. JA seems like a classy kid... I hope Terp Nation continues to treat him with respect.

Really good to hear the Cleare has us at the "top if the list". That would be a huge siging if we can close the deal.
Still trying to figure out JA.
While I wish him well no matter what he decides, I dont know whether to be hopeful that him saying "We haven’t really talked about it or eliminated anyone" is he still is seriously considering Maryland or if its just a polite way of saying "I'm on way way to Hoo-Ville but dont want to offend anyone". Definitely could use his talents but is hew the only player of his caliber out there for 2012? I dont think so and am confident that if he goes elsewhere Turge and company can find similar talent who without question wants to be in CP.
Seth Allen does have that "good kid" look doesnt he? I'm going to be interested to see how he continues to develop his game as a HS senior and hopefully catch a game or two next year if possible. Something about this kid and him being Turge's first recruit has me feeling good about all of this.
What I'm trying to figure out is what's Bruenig confused about? Has he had the opportunity to meet MT face to face? Did he ask for his release or was it just given to him along with the others? Is this a talent that MT wants and feels he needs? Although Bruenig was secured late in the recruiting process and not highly sought after initially, he seemed to have some excellent qualities that woulf help the team. I hope whatever happens he, his family, and his coach consider re-commiting if re-offered. His opportunity for palying time should be good if he's ACC ready body wise. If his court smarts are as good as advertised there shouldnt be a problem acclimating the way Stogs, P Howard, and Hawk did last year.
