Foreman 'shocked' about Don Brown news
The news of defensive coordinator Don Brown leaving Maryland to take the same position at Connecticut reached Lukas Foreman by text message.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound safety “had no idea” what to think when he saw the message from fellow Terps signee and Naples, Fla., native Makinton Dorleant.
“I’m shocked right now,” Foreman said. “I don’t even know what to do.”
Foreman said he has good relationships with other assistant coaches on Maryland’s staff, but Brown was the point man in his recruitment.
“He was one of the main reasons why I signed there,” Foreman said. “… This sucks. I don’t know. He’s been recruiting me since I was a sophomore. He’s real good friends with our coach. So I don’t know.”
Foreman said Brown told him that he had a three-year contract with Maryland. That security made Foreman’s decision to sign with the Terps an easy one. Now the three-star prospect is unsure of his next move.
“He was the big one,” Foreman said. “But it was academics, [and College Park was] a good place -- a nice place I wanted to be, and he just made it better. I don’t know. I don’t even know what I’m going to do right now.”

Shocking!!!! Ridiculous!!! Why is he leaving for the same position at UCONN!??!??! He was a good coach and I wanted to keep him around.
I hope Foreman and Dorleant and others stick with their Terps commitments. We need you guys. Dan Brown was the man, but I'm sure we'll bring in someone who will help you maximize your abilities.
GO TERPS!!!

so again, coaches leave and players/recruits are stuck in limbo. i really dont know the rules - hope someone will enlighten me - but this confirms that when coaches leave, there should be restrictions on them not players.
what a mess - hope these 2 recognize the dedication of edsall and he (edsall) reaffirms they made the right decision. depends on who the new D coordinator is ... NOW IS THE TIME TO GO BIG !!

If Randy Edsall has any integrity (a big "if" given how he left UConn like the Colts left Baltimore), he should grant any player Brown recruited a release from their LOI. These kids have been lied to. There's no way around it. Brown didn't just get this opportunity yesterday, did he? I feel bad for these kids, just as I felt bad for the returning Maryland players who had their coach forced out. Why would anyone want to coach at Maryland. Look at the chaos.

Come On...all these kids knew Randy Edsall is the New head Coach & he's going to pick his coaches.
They didn't have to sign letters of intent on Feb 2nd, they could have waited. BUT, that would risk the school withdrawing their scholarship offer.
Its time these "kids" and their parents realize the "VIP Treatment" last until Feb 2nd. You need to decide then, unless you're a Top 150 recruit, you can end up at Smallville U and virtually forgotten as a football player.
Coaches come & go, but Maryland is Maryland. These kids will be fine.

Math Major-
Get a clue! Did you really just compare Edsall leaving Uconn to the Colts leaving Baltimore?? Really?
That has got to be one of the most moronic statements Ive ever heard. Comparing one man leaving a job, for a better one, to a city being robbed of a football team all together??
Coaches leave jobs every day! It's commonplace. It's business. Edsall is a Maryland guy. Brown is a Boston guy. They are both closer to home, which they wanted.
Pete Carrol, there's a guy who ran away leaving his team high and dry. Nick Saban? Steve Spurrier....
Colts leaving baltimore... what an idiot.

Athetwerp,
RE didn't leave to get a better job. He ran away because he hit his ceiling and took what he could get. MD FB a step up? you've got to be kidding. Fridge was just fine. Your AD is the idiot.

Maryland is Maryland... you are right about that one. You guys now have a head coach that boring (offensive and defensive side of the ball), hates to be criticized, hates the fans for voicing an opinion and whose name will be circulating for big name schools (since Maryland is not one) every year once he gets you winning every year (7-5 and 8-4, maybe a 9-3) since he will do that for you. Then he will be gone like when he left Uconn for you. Count on that and don't be enamored by him in big time moments... he is calculating and will use any moment to his advantage. He is so disingenous I can barely believe the whole Jasper Howard tragedy wasn't just one of those times he used to his advantage. The sheep skin will come off the wolf and you will not like what you have left.

ha look at all the bitter uconn fans who can't appreciate a coach who took your school from D1AA to a BCS bowl. Pathetic bitter people. get lives and move on or are you still stuck on ur fifth grad GF who left you because you didn't share your bubblegum with her

Any coach given the facilities and pay RE was given could have done what he did. One top 25 win in twelve years.
However, he does coach the heck out of the 2 and 3 stars. just don't expect any 4 or 5's to show up. Your AD FIRED a coach w/ a 9-4 record. So RE made a lateral move because he had worn out his welcome so badly he'd rather take a sidestep than actually try to finish what he started. none of us fans are foolish enough to think the BCS bowl was anything other than circumstance. We love our team but we saw how poorly prepared (aka coached) they were in the first 1/2 of the season.
On top of that he tried to blame academic standards being elevated at UC as a problem for recruiting. Other UofMD apologists claim MD is a better school. Well, then someone from the Sun ought to ask RE what he thinks about the MD admissions standards. (By the way, an ex UC FB coach is director of undergrad admissions at UC. makes you wonder, doesn't it?)
MD is a good school, w/ good athletics, but better than UConn, just not so. And better facilities for FB, not likely. RE did just land the RB coach we wanted so that's a postive for you, but right now we're pretty happy w/ a Head Coach who actually likes to talk to the media and won't be shopping himself every chance he gets.
Good bye and good luck. See you in E. Harford in a few years; should be some fun.
