Ga. FB Tyler Cierski plans to stick with Terps

Tyler Cierski had tentative plans to visit Vanderbilt later this month with his father, leading one recruiting website to dub him a "soft commitment" to Maryland.

After a trip this weekend to College Park, however, Cierski says his pledge to the Terps is solid.

“We got up there Friday,” said Cierski, a 6-foot-1, 255-pound fullback from Mill Creek (Ga.). “I hadn’t been up here in awhile. It just reminded me how much I like it here. I don’t think taking other visits is necessary.”

Cierski, who rushed for 792 yards and 11 touchdowns during his senior season, said he was disappointed that Ralph Friedgen was fired last month. Disappointment turned to concern when former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach – who Cierski said didn’t use a fullback much in his Air Raid offense – surfaced as a candidate for the job.

With Randy Edsall taking over the Terps, Cierski said he’s comfortable with Maryland’s offense and can easily envision how he’ll fit in.

“[Edsall] seems like a really cool guy,” Cierski said. “He seemed like someone I could be comfortable with. I could tell that he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to football.”
