Weekly recruiting roundup
A relaxing holiday weekend isn't in store for at least two Maryland football commitments.
Mill Creek (Ga.) fullback Tyler Cierski and Red Lion (Pa.) offensive lineman Andrew Zeller both have playoff games scheduled for Friday night.
Cierski's Hawks have a road matchup with Colquitt County in a Georgia Class AAAAA quarterfinal.
Then there is senior Tyler Cierski, a 6-foot-1, 260-pound fullback, who has (sic) rshed for 745 yards and 11 [touchdowns].
And Cierski is no plodder. He is often the pitch man when [Hawks quarterback John] Russ runs the option.
Zeller's Red Lion squad, meanwhile, faces Daniel Boone in a Pennsylvania District 3-AAAA semifinal Friday. In last week's win over Dallastown, Zeller was a force on the defensive line.
"In our last game, (defensive tackle) Andrew Zeller had eight solo tackles, four assisted tackles, three tackles for a loss, one sack and one pass deflection," Red Lion coach Pat Conrad told the York (Pa.) Dispatch.
• The Terps remain in the mix for Woodland Hills (Pa.) defensive end Quinton Jefferson.
[Julian] Turner is joined on the interior by seniors Justin Littlejohn, James Price and Alfonzo Strozier. The other returning starter, senior Quinton Jefferson, starts at defensive end. Jefferson is one of two heavily recruited seniors on the defense, and lists Iowa, Cincinnati and Maryland as his leaders.
• DeMatha offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio recently narrowed his list of schools to five.
Kouandjio, a 6-foot-7, 322-pound athletic tackle who runs a 5-second 40-yard dash, has Alabama, Iowa, USC, Miami and New Mexico as his finalists. His older brother already plays for the Crimson Tide. Arie Kouandjio (6-5, 335), also of Dematha Catholic School in Hyattsville, Md., is a starting tackle.
Basketball recruiting
• Terps junior forward target Cinmeon Bowers was named one of 25 players to watch by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The punishing 6-foot-6 forward will be a load to deal with for any team. Bowers has scholarship offers from Maryland, DePaul and Iowa. He sat out last season after transferring from Nicolet, where he averaged 10.7 points per game as a sophomore.

Comments
Looks like Kouandjio is no longer looking at MD. Too bad. He would have been a great addition to the up and coming terps.

Kouandjio would be a fool if he didn't go to Maryland. A tackle like that would start immediately for one of the team's depleted lines.
