Terps lose LB commitment to Aggies

The Maryland football program's 2011 recruiting class shrunk by one prospect Monday.

Shaun Ward, a 6-foot-2, 225-pound outside linebacker from Boyd Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., withdrew his commitment to Maryland on Monday. Hours later, Ward committed to Texas A&M.

The Aggies were one of those schools the 6-foot-2, 240 pound linebacker kept in close contact with, and today the Florida native officially de-committed from Maryland and wasted no time to hop on board with Mike Sherman and the Aggies.

Rivals.com ranks Ward a three-star prospect, the No. 39 outside linebacker nationally and the No. 79 player in Florida.

As the husband and relative of several Aggies, it is a shame that such a storied football program sees the need to poach a verbally committed recruit from another school. I believe that A&M's persistent contact with Ward after his UM commitment (as with any school who continues to pursue a verbally committed student-athlete, despite their "legal" entitlement to do so) is shameful. There is certainly little, if any, remaining honor among most universities when it comes to major college sports.

A&M Sucks! The school hasn't been relevant in forever and is like $15 million in debt! What an idiot.

number 79 in florida is probably equal to a top ten player in maryland. it's amazing these guys even consider maryland with the terps having a losing record over the last 6 yrs and going 2-10 last yr when the record could have easily been 0-12. where have you gone bobby ross, a terrapins nation turns it's lonely eyes to you..woo woo woo

I guess somehow this will be Ralph's fault too.At least he doesn't poach other school's players.Oh wait,I forgot,it's not about running a clean legal program year in and year out,it's about leeches like Calapari,Kiffin,Pitino andthe ilk,and people wonder why after they leave the programs get slapped with sanctions.I think it's time the NCAA starts getting it's collective head out of it's butt and sanctioning the coaches. How about the sleazeballs not being allowed to coach anywhere for the same amount of time as the University gets sanctioned for.But they don't have the Kahunas for that.

well said burt - with pitino & calapari, its a fine line between scum and bags. they are a shameful bunc .... oh well, it another 2-years, they will move into a diff prog. they have it all figured out ... anybody can do most anything for 3-years, the cracks start to show after that and they are long gone. checkout their staying power

The easiest way to fix it is get rid of the verbals all together. What's the point they don't really mean anything and aren't binding.

Just have the kids sign their LOI on signing day and be done with it.

Most of the schools don't stop recruiting a player just because there is a verbal. In fact insome cases a verbal puts the kid on the radar of some schools that will start to take an interest.

ps when i look at the likes of calapari, pitino and calhoun ... makes me appreciate g williams more then ever

toss jim b from syracuse in the good pile too

thanks to gary
