Three future Terps to play in D.C. All-Star game
Pe’shon Howard, Mychal Parker and Terrell Stoglin will give local Terps fans a glimpse of the future April 15.
The three Maryland-bound seniors have signed on to play for the U.S. All-Stars in the 37th annual Capital Classic at American University in Washington. The D.C. roster will be announced March 23, but Josh Barr made an educated guess on the team members in today’s Washington Post.
Howard, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound combo guard, averages 13 points and six assists for Oak Hill (Va.) Academy. He’ll lead the third-seeded Warriors in the ESPN RISE National High School Invitational on April 1-3. The tournament will be held at Coppin State’s Physical Education Complex.
Parker averaged 21.6 points and 7.2 rebounds this season for the Miller School, helping the Mavericks to the Virginia Independent Schools Division I semifinals. Parker, a 6-foot-7, 195-pound small forward, is the highest-ranked Maryland commitment. He’s a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com.
Stoglin, Maryland’s first commitment of the 2010 class, led Tucson (Ariz.) Santa Rita to the Arizona 4A-II state championship earlier this month. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard averaged 29.4 points, 6.4 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 steals as a senior.

Matt - I know Stoglin is a 6' 1" PG, but Howard is 6' 2" and sounds like he played PG in HS. What's the plan for Howard - will he be a SG in college? And that sounds like a pretty small back court...thanks

Franklin 92 -- Stoglin and Howard can both be primary ballhandlers and they can both play off the ball. There's a lot of mixing and matching the staff can do with those guys. I don't think you can ever have too many ballhanders.

Matt
How many slots do we have for next year? Are they all filled?

Jeff in Ga -- If Goins doesn't return, the Terps have 11 scholarships committed for next year: Bowie, Tucker, Gregory, Mosley, Williams, Padgett, Stoglin, Howard, Pankey, Palsson, Parker. So they would have two to give. Pearman and Levent would probably get those scholarships if Maryland doesn't bring in another 2010 guy.

Matt - does it look like the Terps will get another guy for 2010? are they even trying to get another kid for 2010? and in your opinion, do you think they will end up bringing in one more recruit for 2010? Thanks.

Steve -- I don't think they'll add anyone else for 2010. I'm sure they'll keep their eyes open for another big man, but pickings are slim, and five guys is a lot for one class.

So Graham is out? we need insurance for Pankey. why not add 6 you have 4 for 2011 or take 3 in 2011 and 2 in 2012

I was hoping the Terps would go after 6-9 power forward Ricardo Ratliffe of Central Florida . He averaged 27 points and 11 rebounds per game. This would give them another big man who could score and help balance out the classes.
