Weekend wrap — Stoglin breaks record
Maryland point guard recruit Terrell Stoglin spent Friday night etching his name into the Arizona high school basketball history books.
In leading Santa Rita to a 62-43 win over Sahuarita, Stoglin became the all-time leading scorer in Tucson prep history.
Stoglin entered the game with 2,535 career points, tied with Cholla forward Chuck Overton (1989-92). With 21 points Friday, Stoglin finished with 2,556. If he maintains his 27-point scoring average for the remainder of the season, he would score roughly 2,850 points, if the Eagles return to the 4A-II state championship game.
• InsideMDSports.com caught up with St. Anthony (N.J.) coach Bob Hurley, who discussed the injury suffered by Maryland power forward signee Ashton Pankey.
“What happened was, the bone was not healing. He went to a second doctor, and I think the decision was, it would be prudent to drill a hole in the leg and allow for the marrow to seep out. That will help the healing process. It’s a shame because he was coming a long way and it looks like he’ll miss the rest of the season,” Hurley said. “I just wish we’d been able to find out about it in September rather than Thanksgiving, and then he could be playing most of his senior year.”
• Terps power forward target C.J. Leslie led Word of God Academy (N.C.) to an easy win Friday.

• Maryland junior forward target Desmond Hubert powered New Egypt (N.J.) to a 51-34 win over Allentown.
Hubert led all scorers with 18 points, including a vicious dunk early in the first quarter that electrified the crowd, grabbed six rebounds, blocked seven shots and altered countless other shots.
• The Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger reports that Terps women's shooting guard pledge Laurin Mincy -- who tore her ACL last summer -- could return to action soon.
Mincy has been cleared medically, according to [University High coach Felicia] Oliver, and is eager to return to action. When that will be in a full-time capacity is still up in the air.

• Despite a huge game from Maryland center commitment Alicia DeVaughn, Pompano Beach (Fla.) Blanche Ely dropped a 65-44 game to Dillard.
She had 21 points, game-high 23 rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots, but didn't get nearly the help from her support cast.
