Terps land Mychal Parker
The Maryland men's basketball program has received a commitment from Mychal Parker.
Parker, a four-star small forward from the Miller School in Charlottesville, Va., is the No. 53 player in the country, according to Rivals.com.
“Having known [Terps assistant] Chuck Driesell for over six years now, I’m confident in their coaching staff and think it’s a great decision for Mychal, the Miller School and the University of Maryland,” said Scott Willard, the first-year head basketball coach and athletic director at the Miller School.
Parker chose the Terps over offers from Virginia, Miami, Clemson, and several others, according to Rivals. The 6-foot-6 senior led Miller to the Virginia Independant Schools Division 2 championship last season.
Parker joins Tucson (Ariz.) Santa Rita point guard Terrell Stoglin and Montrose Christian shooting guard Terrence Ross as part of Maryland’s 2010 recruiting class. All three players are ranked in the Rivals150.

First the O's, now the Terps. How do you even pronounce that first name? Mitchell? Michael? Michelle? (lord I hope not).

Nice job Chuck and Gary! Now we are going to land another big name. Smith, Jones, Johnson, Coleman or Harris, I believe one of these guys is next...
What's your prediction?

Good news. Now we can see what Gary can do when he finally gets out on the recruiting trail.

This kid will make us forget the "one and done" kid from N.Y.
Maybe he would stay 2-3 years, hopefully four.

However you pronounce it, it is probably the same as Michael. Can you give Gary and Coach Driesell credit for an outstanding 2009/2010 recruiting class.
I am sure you will be on board in 2011 when they are a major force in the NCAA.
They got size and ballhandling, its going to be a great 5!

Wow. After that Post article the other day, I was really having my doubts Parker would end up a Terp. But this is a major haul. Five major recruits for 09 and 10.
By 2011, this is a national championship contender.
I think they get Johnson next. I still don't think Harris or Smith will come, but who knows. And I love Jones game.
Hey, where's Ryan and Ed. Those guys have disappeared, as have most of Gary's ridiculous critics. Last year his coaching shut them up, this year, the staff's recruiting has really stifled them.
Have a great day! The Terps are back!.

So Calipari has now taken down the UMass program that was forced to forfeit their entire 1996 season and give back $3 million in monies garned from the Final Four appearance and now Memphis. That's a hell of a track record. Down in Kentucky, they don't care. They would do anything for a title, even if they had to forfeit it later Calipari will go down as one of the most corrupt coaches in NCAA history. Add to that equation his inability to coach - evidenced by one of the worst coaching jobs in a championship game in modern history - and one has to wonder why anyone would hire him.

Go Terps -- It's a good day for Maryland basketball. Can you just enjoy a major signing without dumping on someone? You seem to think you are the only true Terp fan on earth. I hate to ruin things for you, but I actually am a Gary supporter. It's good to see him pick off a major recruit. I would like to enjoy the news without the constant BS. Try focusing on the season ahead and cut out the constant snarky comments.

Ed,
I think you have ,multiple personaliites - or certainly constantly changing opinions as your past postings reflect . Your last line is kinda funny coming from you. But it is good to see you back on the site.

Well, if you can constantly saying negative on other people's beloved coach, then you should be able to take the stand when the negative comments are toward at you. Be like a man, Ed.

gary now has good potential lineup in 2010 what could be a starting lineup in williams, padgett, mosley, parker & stoglin.
fast, athletic, aggressive, offensive, balanced.

Space,
And of course Terrence Ross, Jin, Bowie, Tucker and Gregory will also be there. Be interesting to see if Gary starts the upper classman as he usually does. It's possible the starting lineup could be
Williams, Padgett, Gregory, Mosley and Bowie. But it sure is fun to look ahead now that some bona fide players are coming to CP.

I really feel that mychal will be in the starting line up this year. Coach Williams usually plays the upper classmen first but u can't deny the talent of mychal parker. I've been following his game for a while. He takes over when he needs to and can play and defend the 1,2 and 3. That's my prediction!!!!! I think he is a leader. He averaged 20 pts last year but remember he had 2 other div. one players with him. Thats huge!!!!!

Riqo:
I hope you're assessment of Parker is accurate as I believe Maryland may struggle somewhat this year to find players to consistently put the ball in the basket. However, as far as him starting, particularly right away, you've already acknowledged the probable unlikelihood of same. So, to borrow a phrase from Larry David, I think we all need to "curb our enthusiam" a bit as to the immediate impact any of the incoming players will provide. Frankly, I think the JUCO transfer will contribute the most to the team early in the season with, hopefully, greater (and significant) subsequent contributions from Parker, Stoglin and Howard. And, not that they're bad players, but I feel that anything the Terps get from Paulsson and Pankey this year would be "gravy."
