Dunbar's Spence making trips
It’s still early in his recruitment, but Dunbar point guard Corey Spence should have no shortage of options.
Spence, a 5-11 junior, averaged about 9.5 points per game last year. He spent the summer with the D.C. Blue Devils AAU program, and played to high acclaim at the Hoop Group Elite Camp in New Jersey.
Villanova, Howard, Norfolk State, Delaware, Lehigh, Morgan State and Towson have all expressed interest so far, according to Anthony Spence, Corey’s father. Two weekends ago, the father-son pair took a trip to Philadelphia.
“We went up to Villanova [for Midnight Madness],” Spence said. “They called us up. We enjoyed it.”
This weekend the Spences are scheduled to visit Howard unofficially. The remainder of the fall will probably be spent making other unofficial visits, but for Spence, recruiting won’t really heat up until the winter.
“This is going to be the big year for him,” Anthony Spence said. “Corey’s in the 11th grade, but he’s a young 11th grader. He’s still 15. So we’re going to wait everything out. We’ve got this school year and next summer.”
Spence said coaches have described his son as “a true point guard who can actually score.”
