Several schools after SFA's Holmes

It was just a matter of time for recruiting to pick up for Dante' Holmes.

Holmes, a 6-foot-3 junior shooting guard at St. Frances, is hearing from Temple, Miami (Fla.), West Virginia and UMass, according to Panthers assistant Carlos Green.

Holmes, who averaged 11 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals per game as a sophomore, took an unofficial visit to Temple last weekend for the team’s Cherry and White Night, a midnight madness-type event.

“It went real well,” Green said. “He likes the relationships that he’s building with the coaches. They frequently call and frequently visit. They’re always coming to open gyms and they watched him on the AAU circuit [with Team Melo].”

Green said Holmes spent the summer working on his ball-handling.

“He’s a 2-guard trying to work on being a combo guard,” Green said. “He shoots well and slashes to the bucket pretty good.”

Green said Holmes doesn’t have a timetable for making a decision.
