Tate picks the Terps

The Maryland football team picked up its 20th verbal commitment for the class of 2008 today, and it was a big one.

DeMatha wide receiver Kenny Tate chose the Terps over Illinois and Penn State among others during an appearance on Washington Post Live this afternoon.

Tate, 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, called Maryland a “home away from home” that’s still close to his family.

Tate, Rivals.com’s No. 23 wide receiver in the country, caught 32 passes for 489 yards and six touchdowns during DeMatha’s 10-2 season.

Tate becomes Maryland’s third four-star wide receiver commitment in the class of 2008, joining Forestville’s Kevin Dorsey and Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith’s Kerry Boykins.

The Sun will have more on Tate’s commitment tomorrow.

First of all this fantastic news for the Terps football squad. Tate and Dorsey will make a great 1-2 punch for years to come! Good job coaches, i wonder how much our new OC had to do with this verbal?
On another note, Matt, I just saw on scout.com The BBall program picked up a comit from Bobby Maze's JC teammate. Is this true? And if so I'm not complaining, but where are they getting these scholarships from?

Adam,

No clue on the scholarships. On paper, the Terps are all filled up for '08 and '09. If Bowman's commitment is legit, then someone else would have to leave.

Don't know how true-but read/heard Dave Neal could leave the team next year because of his shoulder and free up another "ship".

Matt, I guess I'm not the only in-tune w/the Scholarship situation at UMD. RE: Comments on the "New Terps LB commitment talks Maryland" posting.

I really like the way UM is attracking these excelllent WR's in recent years. Now, if we can keepn the O-linemen healty and give the QB enough time to get the ball downfield, this offense should be able to put up some big numbers over the next 3 to 4 years.

Great news on Tate! I'm pleasantly surprised.

As for the JUCO PF, I'm guessing at least one of the 3 young bigs that don't play will probably transfer. Burney, Gregory, or even Dupree have been passed by Walker and will be passed by Gilchrist and the JUCO.
