Report: Terps lose CB commit

A bit of bad news for Terps fans on the football recruiting front.

Rivals.com is reporting that H.D. Woodson (D.C.) cornerback Tavon Wilson has switched his verbal commitment from Maryland to Illinois.

Wilson becomes the Illini’s second D.C. commitment for its 2008 class, joining Dunbar defensive tackle Reggie Ellis. Other notable D.C. natives on Illinois' roster include receiver Arrelious Benn and defensive back Vontae Davis.

Here's a link to a list of corners that, at one time or another, reportedly received recruiting interest from Maryland. Anyone out there have a replacement cornerback recruit in mind?

Replacement cornerback? Perhaps you should ask Locksley as he seems to know more about recruiting the DC market better than anyone at Maryland.

Why would anyone from Maryland or DC go to Illinois?
If your a stud and want to go to the Big 10 then go to Ohio State, Michigan or Penn State. What the heck is in Illinois? If I was Maryland or any other school that had a recruit switch to Illinois I would seriously see if something other than playing time or a good education was promised the kid.

Mike Locksley is the current Illinois O.C., and spent 6 years as a Terp Coach. He has an excellent recruiting reputation and knows this area very well. Rumor has it Debbie Yow recently reached out to him to be the Terps O.C., and he politely declinded citing the current structure... fill in the blanks I guess

Illinois beats OSU and is headed for the Rose Bowl. Why not consider going there? It's a program on the up swing. And, their OC knows how to recruit the MD/DC area very well.

This bs is why there needs to be an early signing period for football. It's ridiculous. The school almost always honors its verbal offers, but kids get swayed by....fill in the blank...and jump ship way too often.

Losing Locksley to Illinois has hurt MD as much as any other factor I can think of.

Rick I have heard the exact same thing from other people. He is losing coaches and players left and right. He hates Yow. Although not all coaches and AD's are buds..Trouble is no QB's on the way. We need a Def Coord. QB, OC oh boy..

So Doug, Fridge "hates" Debbie Yow? Well, if that's true and since he owes her for the job in the first place, he'd better put that hate away, maybe use it to get off his ass and recruit the neigborhood and stop schools like Illinois from stealing players out from under his nose! Debbie ain't going nowhere (if Pres. Mote fires her HE should be fired next). Ralph needs to do his job and go get those in-state/DC area players!

"w" is for wake up and do your job and stop blaming others for your recruiting failures!
