Jin Soo Kim commits to Maryland

Shortly after kicking off the 2007-08 season with Maryland Madness on Friday, Gary Williams and staff received its first commitment for the class of 2009.

Jin Soo Kim, a 6-foot-7, 170-pound small forward, committed to Maryland over the weekend following his visit to College Park for Maryland Madness. Kim is from Korea, but plays for South Kent (Conn.) Prep.

Here's a link to Kim's DraftExpress.com profile.

• Former Terp commitment Terrence Jennings pledged to Louisville during a weekend visit to UL.

Did I read that correctly? 6'7" and only 170 lbs? Wow!! Looks like we need to feed him when he gets here.

Yup. According to Kim's Scout.com profile, those are his height and weight measurements. Although his Draft Express profile says 6'8, 180. Somewhere in between, I'd guess.

scout.com has him in the class of 2008. Is it '08 or '09

Is he a 2008 or 2009 committ? His class year seems to be different, depending on the site viewed.

Michael -- Good catch. I'm seeing '09 a lot more than '08. The Sun has reported that he's 2009 as well.

CSTV reports that he is 6'9" 200 lbs. There is a huge difference between 6'7" 170 and 6'9" 200 lbs. I've heard good things about how polished is game is though. This is a nice score, esp. after Terrence Jennings committed to Louisville this weekend. We're better off with out him.

E$ - Well, now I've seen everything from 6'7-6'9, 170-200. I'll try to catch up with his coach later this week.

Matt, a profile of Kim would be great, especially since he was basically an unknown until very recently. I'd like to hear what his coach says.

And Jennings committed to Louisville...this week. That's beautiful. Not only doesn't uk get him, as loudly postulated by some overbearing blowhards on related blogs discussing his decommitment to Maryland, but he ends up at their in-state rival.

From this lifetime Terp, Mr. Jennings, good luck and good riddance.

Below is from a Scout.com article:

"Jin Soo was originally in the 2008 class, but Kim and Jin Soo’s parents in Korea decided it would be best to hold him back so that he could explore college possibilities in more detail."
