The Terps and the Redskins
This is not meant as deep analysis, but just consider:
*After eight games last season, the Terps and the NFL's Redskins were each 6-2. Each faded in the second half. Each won exactly two more games.
*This season, each lost their opener. Each has won two games since. Each has lost their last four. Both lost their quarterbacks this past weekend, although Washington's Jason Campbell returned. A principal problem for each: a struggling offensive line.
*A welcome bye week? Naturally, they had the same one -- Halloween weekend.

This has to be the worst sports year in awhile for me. Terps, Giants, Mets, Nets. WOW!!!!

If the similarities weren't so striking, this comparison might actually be humorous...instead, it's just kind of eerily sad!

Opinion: The Redskins have become the NFL's Orioles.
Fact: The Terps can't seem to run the football anymore.
Opinion: Gary haters are going to be more quiet this year, thankfully.
Fact: Ralph is still better than the 15 years leading up to Ralph.
Opinion: Who's the best MD hoopster all-time? Len Bias or Juan Dixon?

Both teams had to use their kickers to punt in games this yr.

@ smugturtle:
This is way off the thread topic, but I've got to address your last opinion point. Bias or Dixon? Not even close, not even on the same planet, not even in the same galaxy... it's LEN BIAS all the way. I love Juan and what he means to Maryland, but Bias was on the level with Michael Jordan...we're talking "rare" athlete. It would've been amazing to see Bias and Jordan go at it in the NBA.

Bias was clearly the best Terp basketball talent ever.
Juan did the most for the program winning a NC.
Love them both.

When is the ACC going to get with the times and get their own network, a la the Big 10, Big East, etc. Being on TV is such a big deal to recruiting, that having a few down years and no tv games could kill a program for 5 or 6 years. The fact that the terps playing the #21 team in country can't even crack raycom is a joke. An ACC network with two slots 12 and 4 for saturday would mean every game would be telivised on a tv and not a computer.

Bias never led his team to a National Championship. Period.

BIAS...and it's not even close. If you were fortunate enough to have witnessed both Dixon and Bias play the game, the question would not need to be asked.
Dixon certainly was the team leader and a very good "college" basketball player on a very talented "NC" team but If Len Bias had lived, Jordan's footprint on the NBA and basketball history in general would not be as large as it is today....Jordon is the greatest to have played in the NBA and Bias is the greatest to have not!

If you are asked who is the better basketball player: Bias or Dixon? Then its a no-brainer Bias is the far superior athlete with the upside of NBA stardom. But if you ask who is the better "MD basketballer". They're program contributions aren't THAT far apart - different - but equally great. Offensively, they are statistical equals. But Dixon's defensive presence, outside shooting and championship leadership shouldn't be overlooked. His steals numbers are sick and opponents had to beat Dixon to beat MD. They obviously played different positions too.
I had the pleasure and fortunes of seeing both play. Bias' intermediate turnaround baseline jumper and vertical capabilities were sick. Only Jordan had the same turnaround baseline move ever in the history of basketball. Bias beat guys before they even knew they were never in it - and he did it with a contagious smile. I remember the devastating feeling the day after Bias passed away like it was yesterday. He was a freak of an athlete.
As "MD basketballers", I would start my college team with either guy - and win. Dixon did put that team on his back for the championship run and almost individually beat Indiana in the second half, not to mention handling UConn, Kentucky AND Kansas (whoa!!). I think its win-win with either guy - but I don't think galaxies apart for their MD careers.
I have them as co-greatest MD hoopsters all-time.
Love both too! :)
Thanks Jeff for letting some Bias reflections play through for us young dudes. ;)
