Torrey Smith's take on the QB

Here is Torrey Smith's take on Maryland quarterback Chris Turner.

“From the outside looking in – with the media and fans – it might look like he’s doing a terrible job,” the wide receiver said.

“More than likely it’s a lot of stuff that isn’t him,” Smith said. “Chris is a guy, when he’s confident and protected, he’s one of the best quarterbacks out there.”

JB what is the secret undercurrent here. FREDTERP

Is Chris the main cause of untimely penalties, running back fumbles,o-line blitz coverage breakdowns(or good def. schemes),missed assignments etc??Yes,he can throw an intercept once in awhile but he's even running down the field to gain some positive yardage.I say it's inevitable that Robinson should play some more, now, but you don't just "yank" the guy you've counted on for a long time to conduct an experiment right away at qb.That's my strong feeling about the future as of next game with Duke.

Turner has been at best, an average QB in his tenure here and hasn't improved much at all behind a veteran line or our current shotty line; in fact he's pretty consistently inconsistent despite what his QB stats show, the numbers are greatly misleading. Benching him is no major loss despite the shotty line play and talent of this year.

And btw, this whole QB debacle or experiment has been going on since Ralph created it when he took over our program and we lost Hill and McBrien (both not Fridge recruits). I don't fault Turner, he's a decent backup QB, the blame sits with Fridge and his lack of ability to recognize, recruit and develop talent and our football program. Our first three years of success were all Blackney and Taaffe, not Friedgen.

Duke is gonna make terrapin soup
