Terps vs. the Baltimore Colts?
*It’s raining off an on here at Wallace Wade Stadium (umbrellas popping up in he bleacher seats). Could keep the crowd down and – possibly – affect the passing game.
*From the press box, the Blue Devils uniforms look like the old Baltimore Colts – similar color blue and similar dual shoulder stripes. If I see “41,” I’m going to think it’s Tom Matte.
*I expect to see Maryland finding inventive ways to get the ball to Torrey Smith, who played some quarterback in high school.
*The early world is Caleb Porzel might start at running back. He'll play plenty either way.
*The Duke press box is incorporated into a building that also houses a medical complex. A sign coming up the elevator asked “patients” to sign in at the desk. This is a first for me – sports writers sharing space with people who have been diagnosed as ill. The positive dimension here is that there are plenty of hand sanitizers around.
Maryland 0, Duke 0 Terps turnovers: 0

It's amazing that this compairison with the Baltimore Colts. At least from what I'm heaing from fans and alumni there just may be a whole bunch of empty seats at Byrd next season much like it was when we stopped supporting Robert Irasy and didn't attend the Colts games in protest. Unfortunately a drunk Irsay moved the team out of Baltimore under the cover of darkness in a snow storm. The fans NEVER STOPPED supporting the Colts but refused to put money in Irsay's pocket....GET THE HINT?? When I read the headline on this topic it just brought back a lot of bad memories AND I still think that the colors, logo and the name should have remained in Baltimore for the next expansion team but getting to what a lot of fans and alumni are grumbling about is Ralph's total loss of coaching abilities (I for one never beleived that he was much of a coach anyway) and another poor choice by the athletic department in naming James Franklin as "Coach in waiting" and offering to pay him 1 million dollars if he is not given that position. I know that other schools have the coach in waiting but they are a proven assistant in most cases, go to the Maryland Home Page and bring up te coaches and read Franklin's resume beleive me there is NOTHING THERE to warrant the position or the 1 million and if anyone beleives
that the team will be better off with Franklin as head coach let me give you 2 examples, 3rd down and 8 yards to go and he calls a 3 yard screen pass over the middle or 3rd down and long and he calls a quarterback draw...Masterful!! But again from listening conversations after games there just may be a whole lot of empty seats at Byrd next season because fans and alumni are just not going to support Ralph or this athletic department any longer. Just as we did with the Colts, we loved and supported them in our hearts but we just did not support Irsay or in this case Ralph and Yow. It may be very hard to sell sky boxes with no one in the stadium and that kind of coaching.
