Chris Turner says it was 'misunderstanding'

Quarterback Chris Turner says it was all a misunderstanding.

He says he heard about coach Friedgen's statements after the Virginia game that the coach wanted to get some game time for backups Jamarr Robinson and Danny O'Brien.

Turner says perhaps he was feeling a little insecure. So he needed to check with the coaches and make sure nothing had changed regarding his starting position.

Turner said he learned that the plan -- as it had been for some time -- was to bring in Robinson for a series from time to time and perhaps get a look at O'Brien. But Turner's status had not changed.

"It's over," Turner said of the little drama.

Now, Turner says he simply needs to relax and play football. He said he believes he's a better quarterback than last season and hopes the results the rest of the season will bear that out.

Turner NEEDS to be benched, I will go as far to say he may be the worst QB in Division 1a football right now...The students and the fans deserve better, we have no chance at winning this year so we need to start preparing for next year with the younger guys... He has routinely made mistakes that senior QB's should not be making, he is slow and ineffective in the pocket and very inconsistent in all aspects of his game...Bye Chris

Come on G Lewis this isn't Turner's fault. All the blame should be placed on Ralph's shoulder. What do you expect Turner to say when Ralph has never been a fan of his, did you forget the Steffy disaster. Raplh is the worst coach in the ACC he makes excuses for everything, last year it was the seniors were to complacent, this year it's we are to young. When is Ralph ever going to man up and accept the facts for all of offensive genius he has never developed a QB he recruited (portis or ricker). His recruiting classes were horrible until Franklin came back. Give Turner a break this kid was 2 star recruit, I'm just happy he stuck around this long. Ralph is the problem and he needs to step down at the end of the year.

Turner may not be a Heisman candidate, but he is pretty far down the list of problems. Fumbles and dumb penalties seem to be the team's biggest issues. Followed by an inexperienced offensive line that has had trouble overcoming injuries to boot.

Garrett-- in reviewing FBS (a.k.a. "Division I-A") stats, I see where Turner ranks 86th out of the 116 qualified QB's, with a 120.2 rating. Arguably, the honor of worst FBS QB goes to the sophomore out at Washington State, who rates out at 81.4 (and before you remind Turner a senior, the guy just ahead of the Cougar QB is the Rice QB, who is a senior). Turner, having still managed to pitch for over 1,600 yards completing nearly 58% of his passes, must be doing a few things right, particularly considering the O-line has contributed to his 22 sacks, the starting RB out, and his best deep threat from last season now playing on Sundays. Yes, 9 TD's versus the 8 picks points to decision-making lapses, but when it is all said and done he remains the best option if the objective remains to get some w's (while working the other two kids in for a series or two as game situations dictate prudent-- you don't want to mentally or emotionally fry your future). Regardless, I suspect Turner would trade stats for w's regardless: to make the point, the QB ranking four slots below Turner, Sewell, managed to be on the winning squad last week when the Terps "played" (sort of :-) ) UVa.

It's above comments like that. That burns me up. Turner is FAR from the worst QB IN div I. hE WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO TAKE US TO SEVERAL BOWLS.
The problem lies within the offensive line and inexperience. Don't make comments about team unless you do the research to back it up.
This team will get better every game. And do us a favor, don't jump back on when they do. They can live without fans like you.

Typical inane comment. I feel for this entire team, as this offensive line may be the worst in D-1. And that is a combination of coaching, recruiting, and preparation. There is no running game b/c there are no holes. There is no passing game b/c there is little time. No QB can be consistently productive in that atmosphere. And to blame Chris for this - is a joke. Putting in another QB is going to be a disaster. Chris deserves better.

the major problem on the offensive side is the o line. they've done at best a fair job and that may be stretching it a bit. as for turner, he is a decent college quarterback. he's not an all american or all conference performer. he's not nearly the qb that shaun hill or scott mcbrien was but he's not bad. turner is somewhat inconsistent but certainly this year he didn't get a lot of help from the line or the play calling by franklin. it's just not a good team.

Ralph has lived off of other coachs recruits Ralphs recruiting has been lousy, I played college football at the division one level, and never did a walk on start in front of a recruited player. It just shows the coaching staff has done a poor job, we recruit players who are going to James Madison and Delaware, and those players are in awe that Maryland is recruiting them, so we get second tier players. Not the good players who go to Penn State, Va Tech, and Georgia Tech. This year is a bust, we may beat Duke and NC State, but that's it, so prepare for a 4 and 8 season or less. We need to start playing the freshman right now I have looked at Marylands roster and we have at least six offensive lineman at 6 foot 6 inches and 300 lbs. Start putting them in the game if we or they get there a..... kicked so what, they are gaining experience. Let's put scars on baby's face, let make baby tuff. You cannot win football games with walk on's and players with no heart. The offensive line could not block ice. Nuff said, Maryland 2 and 10 or 4 and 8. a disgrace.

Chris is not the scapegoat for lousy team play this year.Young or old.I respect your perspectives of a 2-5 record but the qb has'nt been the main problem, that's just pointing fingers at somebody. As a fan I'm on the wagon to watch them become better;whiny blog writers are too selfish in critisizing the team without signing a full real name at the end of their diatribe.

I suppose if my son was throwing pick 6 every other week I might seek to shift focus onto the AD as well. MD football is a mess and they need to keep this nonsense in house.

As a season ticket owner I am disgusted with this football team. There is plenty of blame to go around. However, considering who we finish the season with it sure looks very bad.

We need to clean house before the 2010 season.

I thought that Garrett's comments were a tad harsh but after this game I'm not so sure. We fought hard and had a chance until Turner threw that interception, this is not a once in a while kinda thing, he's either throwing it to the wrong team or having it swatted down at the line of scrimmage. Stats don;t mean squat Old Timer, he costs us many more games than he's won. But I guess we should blame Yow for the interception. Turner's dad is an *** and Turner is a loser, it really is that simple

Can anyone hear the bandwagon for Coach PETERSON(Boise State coach) crankin' up? Listen very close and hop on. By the way there should be more than enough money in the Terrapin bubget to make this happen!!! We need SOMEONE that can control all of this drama. GO TERPS
