A dismal day at Byrd
What else can you look at tonight but turnovers?
Virginia couldn’t navigate up and down the field on its own. It needed some help. It got it.
Consider that the Cavaliers finished with 201 yards. It was the lowest total offense by a Maryland opponent since Florida International got 163 yards in 2007.
Virginia had all of nine first downs. The Cavs also were without their starting tailback due to injury and lost quarterback Jameel Sewell near the end of the third quarter.
Virginia coach Al Groh said the Cavs were playing for turnovers. Was this because the weather conditions were sloppy or because the Terps have acquired a reputation for putting the ball on the turf? It wasn't clear.
“I think the weather was a big factor. The balls were pretty slick,” said Maryland quarterback Chris Turner.
But he also said the team “can’t make excuses right now.”

Was unfortunatly at Byrd Stadium this afternoon. All I can say was the Maryland Defense wason the field but where was the offense,
Fumbles, interception. Virginia was given the game.
What else is there to say. Oh! when do we get a real quarterback?

Jeff, the usual results of more turnovers than the opposition was very evident at Byrd stadium yesterday.I was inspired watching them play but that tipped Turner pass was the nail on the lid.500 season still possible, the team is improving and we have some good players. It was a shame we made it easier for Va. to score and Wake lost to Clemson. We let an opportunity slip away this year in the ACC.

Regardless of what you say Jeff or what anybody else says this program has hit rock bottom and the time has come for ralph to be let go.Completely unacceptable

Jeff another thing that just makes me laugh is the nerve of Ralph to say well if MD doesn't want me i will go someplace else.He must have a very short memory because nobody wanted ralph except the team that he played for. He had a great resume as a offensive coord.at ga tech and the chargers and still was life and death to get a job. He would be lucky to get a div 3 job.4 out of the last 6 years this program as had a losing record. It's not so easy coaching without those great assistants he had and recruits from somebody else's program is it ralph

Debbie Yow should not have let Paul Johnson leave the state to get an ACC coaching job.

Maryland is a really bad football team losing to really bad football teams. To me that is the alarming trend. You look at the talent level in person having watched MTSU, Rutgers and UVA, they are all bad teams. Poor offense and mediocre defenses. In watching these games I see Maryland with better talent yet the results are horrible. They do up downs in practice when a player fumbles? How about instead of punishment and making the players play even tighter, the coaches actually teach technique? The offensive play calling in this game was also horrendous, especially inside the 20 yard line. How can you ignore the best receiver in the ACC single covered most of the game? Also Chris Turner will leave MD as a statistically accomplished QB but I have to say one of the most inaccurate passers I have ever seen at MD. He under throws nearly every deep ball and sails balls high and behind receivers, even when the ball is dry. Prediction: We are looking at a 2-10 season. No excuse for sinking to this level.

Ray-
Understand the frustration, and love Coach Johnson, but his triple option attack is right where it belongs -- in Atlanta, not College Park.

Enough of the excuses for UM football. To lose to Al Groh 4 of the last 5 games is sad. The Fidge has coached a very average team for some time now. UM hasn't recruited well in Metro DC for quite a while. Change in coaches can't come quick enough.

Please everybody get on the wagon with me and vouch for Chris Peterson Boise's State head coach as Umd. next football coach. His teams looks to be well discipline. His offensive playcalling is like something never seen before. You never know what his next move is. But the thing that I like most about this guy he looks the part of a no nonsense coach. So yeah please all Md. football fans that know real football and seen a few of Boise State games. This is a coach who's value has to be skyrocketing and think he is the type of coach we need here at Md.. Lets get Chris Peterson here at Md.. He's problably a pheonomanal recruiter as he always seems to come up with pro type caliber players at Boise State. As always lets go terps!!!!

Ralph has been a farse since he got the job at Maryland and now we are finally seeing his real coaching abilities. Ralph's success was Gary Blackney and Charlie Taaffe and when they left the program it began to fall apart. This is it and it won't get any better until Chairwoman Yao and Ralph are gone. This is worse than the Krivak years and yes "aynon" I can spell Krivak, I chose to spell it Kreivak out of disrespect and he knows why. Until we get an athletic director who will commit to having a top notch football and basketball program this is all we can expect. Either take money from the athletic department by n ot buying season tickets or supporting the Terrapin Club etc in a form of protest or get used to what we have. We can still support the Terps in our hearts but donating money for this slop is stupid. Maryland has put it's self in a position where they need our donations, where they need to sell the sky boxes etc. We have been a loyal fan base for many yeras and this is what we have to show for our support. I think the UofM owes it's fans a lot more loyalty than we have been given and I also think that by taking donations and support from the athletic department ata time when they need it the most will open some eyes in College Park. I love the Terps and have since the early '70's but I can't support a kick in the teeth any longer.

no1Terps fan I would go to Boise myself with truck full of cash if I thought we could get Chris Peterson. Lets be realistic for him to leave a very successful program that can compete in the BCS every year it will be for a high major job, not a mediocre one in College Park. Peterson has already passed on consideration for Miami, Michigan, UCLA, Washington and a few others. Before this season I was hoping we might be able to lure Brian Kelly from Cincy but based on their success the last two seasons he to will have his pick of jobs as they come open. Unfortunately our only hope of getting this type of coach at UM is to figure out they are good coaches before someone else does. Lets not forget we already have 1 million dollars invested in our new head coach. I can hardly wait...

Hopefully when Turner walks across the stage this year and leaves Maryland for good, Friedgen will follow. This team is undisciplined, poorly coached, and never ready to play...The lack of leadership and emotion is ridiculous.
p.s- Chris Turner is the worst QB in D1-A football

I posted earlier about Jeff Bower who got the axe at Southern Mississippi for n ot making a bowl game after going 7-5 in a down year at the school. I won't reprint his qualifications but they are fantastic. Jeff is currently in retirement and well worth a look if the athletic department cans Ralph before he totally runs the program under a rock. Before that or any coach can be hired we have to deal with what to dowith James Franklin. I would really like to know what reasons were used to offer him "Coach in waiting" because his record surely doesn't qualify him for the job nor does his recruiting record. Franklin has a long record of coaching jobs mostly one year at a time jumping al over the place, is it possible to have his contract voided? A lot of people are down on Chris Turner but Turner is running Franklin's offense and honestly it's as bland as Ralph's and as predictable. I thought that Ralph was supposed to have a 4 inch thick playbook I guess what he didn't tell us was that it's the same play on every page with a passing play inserted every once in a while. There is no simple answer on how to void Franklin's contract and NO real eason as to why he was designated "Coach in waiting" with no credentials so for the future we are saddled with the rest of Ralph's contract not to mention that he has said that he want's to coach after his contract has expired. Interseting question is what does that do to Franklin? If that happens Maryland would still have to pay Franklin his million because Ralph voided Franklin's contract. Just another series of poor choices that The University of Maryland has made. My solution to this is fire Ralph, hire Franklin for a day, terminate his contract and for godsakes hire a football coach with a winning tradition. Is Dan Snyder working in the Maryland athletic department? Google Jeff Bower and read about his coaching abilities!! I pray to God that one day Maryland will finally be rebuilt and have a consistant competitive football program because they have been rebuilding since Jerry Claiborne got here!!:-(!
