No sleeping on the team plane, Terps
This makes me laugh. But it's serious. Maryland coaches say they don't want players sleeping during Thursday night's flight to California.
Coaches say the players need to adjust quickly to the different time zone. Maryland's opener against Cal begins at 7:00 p.m. local time on Saturday -- 10:00 p.m. in the east.
Nolan Carroll says he tends to fall asleep in moving vehicles -- planes, cars. I'm sure he's not the only one who gets lulled to sleep on such trips.
How will coaches guard against such illicit snoozes? Maybe defensive coordinator Don Brown will dispatch a few of his blitzing linebackers to pounce on napping teammates.
Or maybe the players could all watch a scary film -- like a replay of last season's Virginia game.

Make it a double feature of the Virginia game and the Middle Tennessee game.

Each and every player should stand up and give speeches about why Cal will want revenge from last year and how the baby Terps should handle it.Then give out all those white masks from the smoke they're going to inhale for a few days.

Didn't know the Terps were flying in to LA before heading the FOUR HUNDRED MILES north to play @ Cal. There aren't any wildfires in the Bay right now.
Here's a live shot from above Memorial. The Terps won't have any respiratory excuses. GO BEARS!

Just to clarify a point with Dan R., the SoCal fires are 400 miles to the south of Berkeley. There should be plenty of fresh air for the players. Unless you are talking about another kind of "smoke" from Tightwad hill above the stadium ;) Seriously though, mid-60's and a nice breeze off the ocean for the game.

Dan R. I don't get the smoke reference??

masks are sure necessary because you know Berkeley is so close to Southern California (500 miles)...and smog will definitely be all over the bay.

Our circadian rhythms will be all messed up regardless of whether we sleep on the plane. I'm just hoping that we keep this one under the 22 point spread.

OK,fellows,I'll break out a Cal. map a little sooner next time. Hopefully, the Cal team will be blowing smoke and the Terps will need oxygen masks from all their long td runs(Megget,Scott and co.).
