Whatever happened to ...
Everybody remember Tyree Evans and Gus Gilchrist, the two almost-Terps?
Both of their recruitments came with issues -- neither was simple. As you know, there was a war of words between Gary Williams and the athletic department last season over why Evans and Gilchrist didn't end up playing for Maryland.
Since this is the offseason, I wanted to check up on how these guys did.
*Evans played for Kent State, starting eight games and averaging 11.7 points per game. He was solid from the three-point line, shooting 39.9 percent on 158 attempts.
*Gilchrist started a dozen games for South Florida and averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds a game.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Comments
I think it's also worth noting that for all the fuss made over Evans and Gilcrest, neither of these guys managed to get their teams to the NIT, let alone the NCAA tournament.

I hear that Deshawn Painter chose NC State. Can you verify this is correct?

Rumor has it that Painter will be committing to NCState on Monday.

Sounds like much ado about nothing. Neither would have had much impact at UM.
Anything new on Lance Stephenson?

I saw Gilchrist play this year -- he has skills but he was overweight and woefully out of shape. That would have earned him Gary's doghouse for sure.

ESPN has him listed as a verbal committment to NC State.
No last minute Steve Goins signings this year! Keep it open for the 2010 class and work Harris, Parker, Smith and Barton extra hard.

It does not seem that either guy made a big impact on the smaller stage but they could emerge stronger next year.
Rumor had it Gilchrist had a hanger on (adviser/trainer?) that he wanted to be on the UM payroll. Since that could not be done he walked allegedly.
