Gary is tweeting

You may have seen that Gary Williams has joined the Twitter brigade. Old School meets new tech, right?

Maryland's news release said the coach "has become part of the social networking site Twitter.com. With the launch of Williams' official Twitter account (www.twitter.com/MDCoachWilliams), fans can receive updates from the popular Terps' coach on the Internet or on their mobile phone."

I call Williams "old school" because of his coaching style. But I think Maryland has been pretty quick to adopt new tools such as ample online video streaming and reality programming related to Terps teams.

Maybe Gary ought to stop tweeting and get on the phone with Wil Barton and Roscoe Smith, Deshawn Painter, Toby Harris, and a slew of other top players over the next 2 years and put an end to this mediocrity that the program has been swimming in for the last 4 or 5 years. I hate not being able to beat Duke. But whats worse is, I never thought when Miami, VT and BC joined the ACC that we wouldn't just own them every time we played. It is embarassing.

Seriously, Ryan? If only Gary stopped reaching out to fans . . . If only Gary stopped eating and sleeping and instead camped out in the Barton's front yard . . . If only Gary would violate the NCAA rules . . .

The man is working hard. He has already landed one big recruit for 2010. More will come.

Ryan, read the "tweets" and you will see that there is no way in hell that is Gary. Probably an intern posts most of that stuff. Secondly, there are strict NCAA rules limiting coach contact, phone calls, etc. with potential recruits. I am sure he is doing the maximum amount allowed. I hate losing to Duke as much as any Maryland fan, and more than most, but I'm glad we have someone with the integrity and coaching skill of Gary Williams as our coach.

Embarassing? Man, you have no clue what that word means. Recruiting has fallen off yes, and Gary is partially to blame. But don't be an ignorant fool to say the last 4-5 years have been embarassing. I will definitely get on board with mediocre. That is most likely what is has been, at some points. The last time the Terps were in the bottom of the ACC (bottom 2-3), which I would consider embarassing, was the early 1990's. And also, owning a team every time the Terps play them??? That is pretty unreal considering the talent, work ethic, and skill that the ACC continues to get every year, even at the schools that were mentioned. Come on now.

Put Duke out of your mind, Ryan. They aren't our rivals anyway. UVA and UNC are the schools most like us in the ACC, and we should regard them as our rivals. Duke doesn't care about us. It is a one-way rivalry, and that is kind of pathetic. Meanwhile stand by Gary.

Ryan is probably the person that scans and leaves every game except the Duke and UNC games. He probably paints himself and calls himself a die hard fan. He also proabably scans messageboards for names and stats and then comes on here and bashes him. You are sad.

Relax everyone. Joke. n- something funny. vb- to joke.
ex. Ryan thought is was funny that Head Coach Gary Williams is tweeting, since tweeting and cell phones go hand in hand, made a reference to calling prospects.
He obviously didn't mean that Gary should be like Jim Carrey in "The cable guy" and just call Will Barton all day and night long,
"Hey Will, its Coach W, was drying my hair and thought I heard the phone ring, that ever happen to your? Well, call me we'll talk about it.
I love the terps. Christ, relax. Man, the venom.
I really do think its funny that in this time and age, the HEAD COACH of a basketball team, even has to insinuate that he is taking time to post to the fans every few hours every day.
Thats not funny to anyone else?
