« Seven Maryland players violated curfew | Main | Maryland-Nevada notes »

December 30, 2008

Halftime observations

• Nevada's pass defense is as porous as advertised. The Wolf Pack entered the game ranked last in the nation, and now we know why.

Chris Turner had two touchdown passes and 158 yards in the first half. Maryland put up 243 total yards in the first half.

• The Terps took a 28-14 halftime lead despite Da'Rel Scott and Danny Oquendo being kept out the entire half because of curfew violations. Turner surely misses Oquendo, his favorite third-down receiver. But Ronnie Tyler has five receptions and Morgan Green has 64 rushing yards in place of Scott.

Two of the punished players -- Jamari McCollough and Moise Fokou -- came in during the second quarter.

• Nevada’s “pistol offense” ranked second in the nation in rushing. But Maryland held the Wolf Pack to 47 yards rushing as Nevada threw instead (159 passing yards).

The Nevada QB bears an erie resemblance to Graivis Vasquez. That can't be good for Maryland.

Well, a win is a win. Maryland putting up 42 was not too suprising. Derell Scott's second half was better than any running back that has played against UNR. He and the offensive line simply dominated. Turner was ok. What the heck was the screen call that caused a fumble. UNR played similar to the way they have all year. Decent offense, no defense in a notch below conference. After Boise, this is what the WAC is all about. (Yes I miss the ACC!!!)

Game was microcosm of the entire year. At times the Terps played well and at times they were terrible.

See you all next year in Berkley. Terp Fans, come out for that one. Watching a game in Strawberry Canyon at Cal is a great, great experience. Overlooks San Fran Bay and the city in the distance.

Oh, one last thing. Tomorrow watch ESPN2 to see UNR get pounded at home by Carolina. Two ACC games in row! I will have the TERPS sign at the game!!!!

Go Terps!!!! Go ACC!!!!

Very entertaining game. Bowl watch party was a ton of fun and Terps supplied a win! I enjoyed the Terps playing a first time opponent. Also, so much time has passed (10 Days!)since the EagleBank Bowl (who would want to play in first bowl of the year if you didn't have to?) that I've almost forgotten that Navy lost to an opponent that the Terps shut out!!! NOT!!!

BilltheGoat, where are you???

The peaks and valleys of Terrapin football are almost enough to give an old alum a heart attack. Still, it was great seeing Maryland and the ACC get another bowl win. I can understand how frustrating it must be for Ralph to swallow the inconsistency that eats away at the program. To get to the next level, the Terps need better talent in their defensive secondary and more quickness and speed. Hope they get it. The play of the reserves in place of the benched was heartening and may be a good sign for next season.
