Terps still want Meineke bowl

Maryland's prospects for a desirable bowl game dipped after Saturday night's loss in combination with wins by North Carolina and Clemson.

It's clear Maryland is still eyeing the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 27 in Charlotte, N.C.

In his media conference call today, coach Ralph Friedgen gave what I think is a preview of the case that Maryland will make to the Meineke bowl this week.

Remember that the Music City, Meineke and Emerald bowls have the fifth, sixth and seventh picks of ACC schools. So Maryland wants to be regarded as no worse than seventh among conference teams. It helps Maryland, of course, that the school has a large fan base.

This is what Fridge said:

“You have four teams that are 5-3 in the conference and another four or five that are 4-4,” he said. (Note that six teams actually finished 4-4).

“Of those 4-4 teams, we beat everyone but Miami and we didn’t play Miami,” the coach said. “As I look at it, we should be no worse than fifth in the conference. I would hope that would give us a leg up.”

they don't deserve to go to a bowl game. ralph did a poor job coaching and the players did not execute. they should not be rewarded for playing poorly.

terps are no good, stay home.

A bowl game is given on the basis of an entire season. The Terps played well in some games, OK in others, poorly in some. In this era of literally dozens of bowl games, they definitely serve a bowl berth.

Way to end the season Terps - slouching to the finish line. At least we have basketball... wait...

As long as the Terps play a ranked team during daylight hours whlile the moon is full and the weather is warm, I am all for it.

Part of the way the Terps ended the season had to do with the teams they were playing against. To me the last two games showed that they were not as good a team as I thought earlier in the year. I think they were a decent team that rose to the occasion in several games against better competition rather than a superior team that consistently underperformed in their losses. Yes, they laid a total egg against MTSU and UVA, but FSU and BC just outplayed them.

I'll tell you who doesn't deserve a bowl game - UVA. The Terps, and the other 9 bowl eligible teams in the ACC all have reasons to recommend them for some kind of bowl. I'll be surprised if the Terps don't end up in Boise, though.

USATODAY.com today is predicting Terps at Music City Bowl vs Kentucky. Shows Wake going to Boise and VATech winning ACC Crown. Clemson vs Navy...interesting.

I hope the lady who broadcast the Terps/BC game has nothing to do with which bowl the Terps go to. I have never heard anyone so partial to a team than she was to BC. Put her on the sidlines.
The Terps deserve to go to a bowl.
GO TERPS

ben youre a moron who mustve never played football. The Terps got out executed- and had some bad luck in their losses to Florida State and BC. Things snowballed out of control- but don't be an ass and disregard all the good they did this season (one which started with low expectations). They arent an elite team, but they for sure deserve a bowl bid.

I believe that lady was Pam Ward - a University of Maryland alum. She may have been trying too hard not to be a "homer".

As long as Chris Cosh remains defense coordinator, Maryland will never win a ACC title game.

That lady who broadcast the Terps-BC game was MD grad Pam Ward.
