Turner has mixed feelings about QB scenario

I was struck by Chris Turner's reaction to being named the starting quarterback for Saturday's game against Middle Tennessee State.

He must have been excited to get his chance. But there was also a sense that this moment wasn't as sweet as it might have been.

For one thing, he felt bad that last week's starter, Jordan Steffy, who has endured well-chronicled concussions, suffered a serious thumb injury.

But I suspect Turner's mixed feelings were also about not being named the starter originally.

"It's almost like you didn't earn it. It's almost like you don't deserve it," Turner said of advancing to first string after Steffy went down.

Turner may seem laid-back, but he's deeply competitive. He really wanted to win the job outright and on merit.

Might he have been named the starter eventually -- perhaps even for Saturday's game -- had Steffy not been hurt? That's something we'll never know.

I profiled Turner in a story that is currently online.

When we watched Chris Turner for the first time up here in New England we thought my gosh, we'd put him in for Kyle Boller right now.

Even if you were the losing contestant on "Are you smarter than a fifth grader" you can be the analyst on a Terps football game on Comcrap. That is if you were a former NFL quarterback. We are sick of hearing Holcomb call Middle Tenn. WE.

You all wanted Chris Turner...Well, you got him! 24-14 Middle Tennessee State!

Whew.....What a patheltic performance by the Maryland football team.....a 24-14 loss to Middle Tennessee State.
Maryland appeared to be unprepared both offensively and defensively.....and were out coached badly...both on offense and defense.
Ralph....your time has come to step down after the season....PLEASE!!!!!

Worst defense ever at maryland . no offense and no "
one too run one..... go terps

He sure played like he was mixed up tonight. I think MD's QB problems go further than the wrong guy getting the nod.

I hate to be one of the people that finally have to point out what is becoming a liitle bit obvious. Since using players recruited in the
Ron Vanderlinden era, and having 3 good seasons with them, Friedgen's teams have won only about 50% of their games since then. Also for a coach whose fame is supposed to be in the offensive side of the game; Friedgen has had a pitiful run of quarterbacks since the 2004 season.

THE FRIDGE IS OUT OF FREON AND HAS BEEN the terps look TERRIBLE

PUT IN JOSH PORTIS! One of about three real playmakers we have on this team.
