Terps seek new receivers coach

Maryland wide receivers coach Bryan Bossard will not be retained for the 2008 season, coach Ralph Friedgen announced today.

“We appreciate Bryan’s efforts, but we need to move in a different direction at that position,” Friedgen said. “We wish Bryan luck in his future endeavors.”

Bossard, 40, coached the Terps’ wideouts for the past three seasons.

Prior to his time with Maryland, Bossard spent three seasons (2002-04) as the wide receivers coach at Delaware, his alma mater.

Friedgen will immediately begin a search to find Bossard’s replacement.

This is a good start and the next move should be dropping the defensive cooridinator because other than great individual player efforts the defensive coaching was awful. I'm glad to see that Ralph hired an offensive cooridinator but unless Ralph lets him call the offense and finally gets away from a "prevent offense" after Maryland gets 2 touchdowns up on a team then it won't matter who is calling the plays it's going to continue to get a lead, sit on it until we fall behind and reinvent the passing game to try to get the lead back...Wake or Virginia ring a bell? I'm a Terp fan through and through but Maryland has become too predictable and the offensive shows no imagination.

If MD can just find a coach that can get Heyward-Bey to realize his full potential.

While upgrading/improving the offense was certainly needed, I'd really like to see the Terps focus on getting some moxie back on defense. So far, after two seasons with Chris Cosh, I'm pretty unimpressed. The defense seems hesitant when it should be attacking. Plus, the tackling is spotty.

is it possible that james franklin coaches recievers now also, and they hire a new special teams coach

Coach Franklin will bring alot of changes to this receiving corps. My first visit to UMd brought joy sitting down with Franklin before he left to the NFL. He explained how he was working on a system for his 3 high powered receivers(#17,8,84) he was able to recruit, and to hear him speak of his new receivers and gameplan made any UMd fan salivate with the ideas and the potential of these three. All plans were shot once Franklin left. But like rap star Juelz Santana says, "I'm Baaack!!". Hopefully Franklin will install that high powered office he once envisioned and bring the Terps back to the forefront. They have the players, now its time to "do the damn thing".

My bad, I'm so excited that I confused offense with office. Hopefully the coaching staff won't make the same mistake and realize they have an opportunity to surpass expectations and get out of the office mode(afraid to lose a office position by taking chances). Go Terps!!!
