Terps bowl projections -- Boise or San Francisco?

Based on most projections, either Boise, Idaho, or San Francisco will be the likely bowl destination for the Maryland football team.

The Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl kicks off on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. EST at Bronco Stadium, home of the Boise State Broncos.

The Emerald Bowl is set for Dec. 28 at 8:30 p.m. EST at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.

Here are some of the up-to-date bowl projections from national sports Web sites. If there are projections I've missed, let me know.

ESPN.com’s Ivan Maisel has the Terps pegged for Boise in a Humanitarian bowl matchup with Boise State, while Mark Schlabach envisions an Emerald Bowl date with UCLA.

SI.com’s Stewart Mandel also projects the Terps will play in the Emerald Bowl, but the opponent he sees is California (who Maryland hosts Sept. 13, 2008).

FoxSports.com predicts a Cal-Maryland matchup in the Emerald Bowl as well.

CBSSportsline.com also pits the Terps and Golden Bears in San Francisco.

Rivals.com foresees an Emerald Bowl with Maryland and UCLA.

Scout.com has the Terps and Bears squaring off in the Emerald Bowl.

MSNBC.com projects a Terps-Broncos matchup in the Humanitarian Bowl.

Of those predicted matchups, which one would you like to see? Click here to vote in a baltimoresun.com poll.

According to the Diamondback, the Emerald Bowl executive director said yesterday on a scale of one to 10, the Terps chances of being invited are a 9. We're goin to San Fran.

Emerald would be the best for UMD due to the fact that we play them next Year and it would help alot

Seems a little unfair that we're basically playing a home team in every single bowl projection!

No one should have to watch their team play on that G-D Blue carpet! That's not a reward for a bowl-eligible season...it should be punishment for the 2 worst D-1 teams to play on that mess.

I wouldn't rule the Meineke bowl out. They've wanted the Terps for quite some time now...and we should be around when it's there turn to pick. But I'd be much happier with the Emerald than the Smurf bowl.

I'm hoping for Boise! I will be there for the holidays with my wife's family and have bought tickets to the Humanitarian Bowl weeks ago. If the Terps go to San Fran, then at least I can see Boise State on the blue field.

dan is obviously an idiot!!! maryland would get there butts wooped by boise , no doubt!!!

A bunch of those predictions were made before, ahem, The Fit Hit The Chan. Pretty sure NOBODY is going to want a team with an interim coach and a disinterested fan base. That smells like Tech gets to be the Boise St. patsy.

I'd love Charlotte but it ain't gonna happen. Nashville will take FSU For Sure, and Charlotte won't pass up Wake in their home state.

Never believe the Diamondback.

We're playing a home team in the bowl projections because we let Wake and UVA up off the mat and lost to an AWFUL Carolina team. We get those three and we're playing this weekend.

Hey Matt,

Do you know which networks will nationally televise the Emerald and Humanitarian Bowls?

I'm for whichever bowl gives Maryland the best opportunity to shine. Boise is a great town that appreciates their bowl game; BSU still has some national attention after last year's incredible BCS victory; Bronco Stadium's more like Navy-Marine Corps (you're close to the field) and playing on the Blue would be a lot of fun even if it is a home game for the Broncs. San Fran sounds more appealing, but neither place is going to be warm in late December. Schools out so which game would more good prospects be watching?

I guess I'd lean to the Emerald if that's where the players would rather go, but if it's on the Blue I know several Maryland transplants who will hop over to see our Terps break down those Broncos!

btw...Byron Mouton played out of Boise for a year or two after college.

Does anyone know how many of the injured players will be able to play in the bowl game. I sure would love to see us at full strength for this game!! BTW.....I'm lovin' the thought of a Maryland vs. UCLA game:-)!

--betcha it's Maryland v. Oregon in the Emerald Bowl

I like the emrald bowl based on Time and Date. I can see that game on TV.

I will be working during the Boise Bowl

WHEN DO WE GET A NEW TERPS REPORTER!
