Portis out for season
I'm stunned. Didn't see this one coming.
Josh Portis is out for the season, but the way the press release is worded, it sounds like he did something, not that his GPA fell below the minimum required.
"I am extremely disappointed that I made a mistake involving the University Academic Code of Conduct," Portis said in a statement that was handed out to us here in the Byrd Stadium press box.
Good grief. Nothing like a little news BEFORE kickoff.
Look, this is bad for Maryland, however you look at it. The Terps are down to three quarterbacks. Two have transferred, and now Portis - the fastest - is gone.
If it wasn't there before, the pressure is on Jordan Steffy now. It's clearly his show. Chris Turner is automatically bumped up to No. 2, but it's no secret he's not as mobile as the other two guys.
Digest this while I try to find out more. And cover a football game.
TWO DEEP CHANGES: RT Dane Randolph will start instead of Jack Griffin, who will play.

yes its not like he didn't admitt it and isn't facing a consequence and a harsh one for it. SO yes lay off the kid. Or were you that perfect that you never made a mistake at his age that cost you?? I know i did and learned from it and didn't repeat the action and ended up better for it. I HATE all of you holier than thou people who want to crucify a kid who actually has good grades but made one mistake and academically grounded himself like 1000's of other college kids do across the country. So grow up and show some compassion.

This adds insult to injury. Why couldn't Ralph have told Bobby Sheahin a month ago to sit tight and not tranfer, that there might be an opportunity. Didn't Ralph have any inkling of this? If not, why not? Shouldn't someone let him know that it didn't look like Josh was going to be able to play this year. Somewhere there's miscommunication, it seems, and it may have cost the Terps a very talented QB for the future.

Hey Josh, im sorry you were an immature moron in college, but I wasn't. I was getting stuff done and making a name for myself. If you are expected to be a savior for a football team and #1 qb (debatable), you dont do stupid crap. You are probably pumping gas with those types of standards

My sentiments exactly Josh. Some people can't see the forest for the trees...
But man did Turner look terrible, can under armor whip up a flexible knights suit for Steffy because that kid cannot get hurt....
