Country Roads and No. 12
Let's look past that thrilling FIU game this weekend for a second and jump to the good stuff, shall we?
West Virginia, which is ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press poll this week, is coming to College Park on Thursday night, and I thought I'd pass along some info to help you actually get there to see it.
It's not going to be normal parking.
You don't want to miss this one, because don't forget -- Maryland plays Cal instead in 2008 and 2009. (In case you missed it, Cal just beat Tennessee -- not quite the cream-puff Maryland thought it would be when they scheduled Cal eons ago.)
Here's an off-topic observation for you, since I'm in the union (BIG surprise) waiting for practice to end ... Remember how before the season started I took a tour of the union to see what jerseys were for sale, and No. 12 ruled the racks? Yeah, well, Patrick Stevens from the Washington Times did a recent sweep of the bookstore AND Comcast, and found no sign of Josh Portis' jersey.
A) It's a coincidence
B) They all sold out
C) Ask the guy in front of you for the answer

"Ask the guy in front of you for the answer"
Another good shot at Josh.

Actually, Jeff Tedford was the coach and Cal was a solid program when Maryland scheduled them and they were expected to fill a role as the premier OOC game in those two seasons. If you want to argue that Rutgers was an expected creampuff when scheduled then I won't dispute that but you are incorrect about Cal.

Hey Heather,
just wanted to say you do a great job. I don't think most of the other local papers give us the Terps coverage that you do. as an alum, staff member, and fan it's appreciated.

there you go again not actually reporting and saying whatever you feel, cal has been a top 15 program for the last 5-10 years, noob

MDPROUD - There you go again, reading my blog. Hey, do your research. Maryland scheduled Cal about 10 years ago. In 1997 they were 3-8. In 1999 they were 4-7. In 2000 they went 3-8. The 1998 records are incomplete. Doesn't sound like a top 15 program to me.

I could have sworn the Cal-MD thing was a "pet project" of C D Mote after he came here from Cal which didn't happen until 1998 and then took some time (a lot of time even) to work out. And sure enough I googled it and found that it wasn't announced by Cal as official until Feb. 3, 2004.
"Feb. 3, 2004
BERKELEY - The University of California has signed agreements for home-and-home football games with Tennessee, Maryland, Minnesota, Colorado and Navy, series which will begin within the next six years, Cal Executive Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Sports, Dan Coonan, announced today. Four of the five new opponents (excluding Colorado) played in postseason bowl games this past season."
