Speaking of "greyshirting" ...

As "Philip" noted in the previous post, the Terps have somewhat of a scholarship crunch, but it helps that two members of the incoming 25-man freshman class will "greyshirt," meaning they will start classes in January, and join the team in the spring. That way, they will maintain true freshman status for 2008, and their scholarships won't count against this year's incoming class.

Offensive lineman Carl Russell and defensive lineman Joe Vellano, "those two definitely" will greyshirt, Friedgen said. He should know by the end of the second summer session if he has any scholarships to spare. He likes to give them to guys like former walk-on kicker Dan Ennis, or unheralded players like Matt Goldberg, who have contributed more in practices than games.

Also, as of the ACC football kickoff media days about a week ago, the only player not to have qualified was tight end Devonte Campbell.

The Terps have their own media day in College Park on Monday, a week from today, so more information could come about these topics then.

Thanks for the info. Good stuff, now I can get back to cracking skulls in anticipation of tailgating season.
