Sad news for college hoops
Word has spread that Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser died today.
I was fortunate enough to have met him a few years ago at a charity golf event in PA, and then cover him in the ACC. He was the kind of coach reporters gravitated to, not for controversy, but for thoughtful, insightful answers and for his humor.
Skip was a good friend to several people in the Baltimore area because of his one-year stint at Loyola. That was during the 1993-1994 season, but everyone I talked to today about Skip had spoken with him recently. He seemed to make time for everybody.
Gary Williams is out recruiting, but gave this statement via the sports info dept.:
“Skip was a great competitor and a great coach. His teams were always well prepared and well coached, but he was someone who was your friend on and off the court and always conducted himself as a class act following the game no matter the outcome. College basketball and the ACC will miss him because of what he gave back to the game.”

I graduated from Loyola College with a degree in journalism. Senior year I did a paper on coaching in college basketball. Skip had no clue who I was but had the joy in calling me back for the interview. How many top ranked D-1 coaches would a call an average student back? I am honored to say I had the pleasure of talking to a man who wasn't just a coach but a teacher...

What a shocking and horrific tragedy. He was the same age as when my father passed away from a heart attack as well.
Prayers for his family, friends and team.
