Gary Douglas Jr.
Maryland reeled in another one, making Gary Douglas Jr. the third recruit in two days to give the Terps an oral commitment.
Those of you who pay attention to this stuff might have noticed that until this afternoon, Maryland wasn't even listed among this kid's choices on Rivals.com. I just got off the phone with him and he told me Maryland caught on in June, and he first visited the campus Wednesday of this week. He told coach Ralph Friedgen this morning of his intent to play for him.
I asked Gary how his team at Hillside High in Durham, N.C., did last season and he had zero trouble remembering his stats. He rattled off the team's 10-3 record, along with 145 carries for 1,889 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Douglas is rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 50 back in the country. He said he also received offers from Cal, Tulsa, VCU, N.C. State and Marshall.
Gary said he picked Maryland because "the coaches, they were really down to earth. They were telling me the truth about things."
Gary is the ninth member of the Terps' class of 2008, which is currently ranked No. 42 by Rivals.com.

Gary Douglas is the 50th rated running back in the country not the state. Also maryland is ranked 42 by Rivals but that doesn't include Douglas,Dill or Boykins.

A bit deceptive to list the rivals ranking at 42 after a story on the 9th recruit. A quick look at the rivals rankings show that the rivlas rankings are not updated and only count 6 recruits. Furhter, the ranking is tied at 41 with minnesota, who has 10 recruits on the list to maryland's "6," rather than 42.
Lastly, Douglas is the 50th ranked RB in the COUNTRY, not "state."
It is writing like this that leads some to believe that there is some animus against UMD by the sun.

Rivals rates Gary Douglas the 50th best RB in the country, not the state of NC.

DAN - Thanks for pointing that out. I could've sworn that's what I originally wrote. I changed it. Sometimes a mistake is just a mistake, Dan, but your conspiracy theories might make for some good fiction. And you guys are right about the ranking thing. I'll save that for signing day.

Real nice post in addition to the story on Jess Atkinson's Terps reality show.
I love when new characters are introduced.
