Expect delays on Bay Bridge
The Maryland Transportation Authority has called off its usual two-way traffic operations on the Bay Bridge Friday afternoon because of the threat of bad weather.
The agency is warning travelers to expect delays as a result.
The authority usually shifts one lane of the three-lane westbound bridge to eastbound use at periods of peak travel to the Eastern Shore. But it does not do so at times when the weather is bad because of safety concerns.

the MTA should learn that the first rules of driving is to reduce your speed in times of bad weather and not allow the drives to cross the bay bridge at posted speeds if they are concerned about the weather. In that way they could maintain the normal heavy traffic rules for east bound traffic, especially since Gransonville has an emergency center operated by UMMC that would eliminate the concern over westbound traffic backup. Furthermore they could start using a buffer land in the middle to avoid water splash that would be eliminated or minimized by slower traffic. The MTA should get with the times and stop following age old practices.
