MARC service canceled on Camden, Brunswick lines

The Maryland Transit Administration has canceled service Thursday on the MARC Camden and Brunswick lines as a result of Wednesday's snow. The MTA said it will provide service on the Penn Line on a modified holiday "S" schedule. The agency said some midday Penn Line trains may be canceled because some Camden and Brunswick line equipment will not be available.

What is a modified holiday schedule? MARC doesn't run on holidays, except for Columbus and Veteran's Days, and I don't see anything on their website that indicates the schedule for those days.

I assume they mean an 'S' schedule, but it would be extremely helpful if they could be more specific in their announcements. People are trying to make their plans now for tomorrow.

If you go to the following link:

http://mta.maryland.gov/services/marc/serviceInformation/Penn_Aug2010.pdf

next to the train number, the 'S' will designate the trains that will be running.

All I can say is OPM better cancel work tomorrow for federal employees...with two of the Marc lines down, commuting is going to be an absolute nightmare!

How does 1 line stay up while the other 2 have to close? And why isn't Metro honoring monthly passes? Marc only seems to make that arrangement when they know riders won't be able to take advantage of it.

COMMENT: The Penn Line is Amtrak-owned while the Camden and Brunswick are CSX property. Amtrak maintains a busy schedule that can keep the tracks clear. CSX tracks are more likely to snow over.

Mike: Thanks for the comment back, but I still don't see how they shut down for the entire day, given the freight traffic and the fact that the precip ended before midnight.

Besides, what about the deal that they supposedly have with Metro to honor the monthly passes? They only seem to do that midday for a temporary closure, when folks have already taked the train to work and can't take them up on their offer, since their cars are already parked at a Marc station.

COMMENT: If you're shutting for the morning on those lines, you might as well shut for the evening too. I'm not sure what the deal was on the passes.

I would like to know if regular MTA buses, subway, and lightrail is running today? Oh by the way, why is it that I NEVER SEE A SUPERVISOR WHEN THE WEATHER IS BAD? I left out at 5:00am this morning and with the exception of the #14-Annapolis bus, I saw no other buses. I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE SIDE STREETS, BUT COME ON NOW, MTA can do much better.

Would have been nice if WMATA got the word, because they weren't accepting MARC tickets on Metrorail this morning.
