Veteran's Day Parade could tie up traffic
Government employees who have the day off have nothing to worry about, but downtown workers who have to report on Veterans Day could find the trip to work a challenge because of the city's parade plans.
The Downtown Partnership reports that the city's 8 a.m. Veterans Day Parade will close several busy downtown streets tomorrow between 7 a.m. and noon. They are:
• Charles Street from Fayette Street to Monument Street
• Lexington Street from Charles Street to Frederick Street
• Gay Street from Fayette Street to the Fallsway
• Saratoga Street from Gay Street to Holiday Street.
Parking restrictions will also be in effect on streets in the area of the parade route between 6 a.m. and noon. They are:
· Charles Street from Lexington to Madison Streets
· Lexington Street from Charles to Saratoga Streets
· Gay Street from Fayette Street to Fallsway
· Saratoga Street from Gay to Holliday Streets

This would bother me less if more private business actually observed _ALL_ federal holidays.

Well, this will make getting to my office garage at Charles & Saratoga an interesting exercise...

No word yet on MTA's website about how this will affect bus routes, I've noticed. Considering the sheer number of routes that'll have to be diverted, and the number of non-government riders that will be affected, I'd say this is a pretty blatant example of MTA's lack of communication skills. Did Veteran's Day come as a surprise this year?

Update to my previous comment: MTA has put up route changes for tomorrow - but it's under a link titled "Local bus long term diversions." You can find the info here:

Don't get me started on the ludicrous-ness of a parade in the central business district during morning rush on a day when most people do, in fact work!
Is it asking too much for someone to actually post the parade route? Trying to follow the description of these closures is ridiculous. There must be a map somewhere with the parade route marked? Why can't the Downtown Partnership or the Sun at least link to it?

I hope the voters remeber this day in 2012. The president is away and failing to acknowledge all the men and women who sarcafice their lifes to protict us, But we al know this but the president is avoiding them.

Here, Here User755. All too often the Sun seems to ignore that an online publication allows them to easily post the route and instead choses to use text based descriptions of the route. (Oh and the City is just as bad....and MTA burying the information shouldn't surprise anyone)

I can't find the route or time anywhere. I'm not looking for reasons of traffic; I'd like to see the parade. The hardcopy of the Sun didn't have it and it's not online at in any site that google is turning up. I can make guesses based on the traffic closures, but why should I have to.
Joe-Ball, you may be surprised to learn that there are US soldiers in Korea. The President was with them today.

Oh, sure, Joe Ball, remember the boneheads that got us into all this trouble during the recent decade? Glenn Beck doesn't need you to shill a low-ball opinion of Obama--just because he's not 'here'??...He's celebrating with the vets where he is, he didn't 'forget'. You would have a similarly hateful comment if he bicycled up to Baltimore with only an Eagle Scout escort and wearing a tutu. Have you ever had the least good to say about him?

Thank you CuConnacht. Thanks for the shout out for the men and women in Korea.

Those darn Veterans!! What'd they ever do for us? Oh yeah. They kept our freedom alive. Thank you and may God Bless all my fellow Veterans.

Anyone who would plan a parade during rush hour should be put into an asylum. What time would actually make sense? Ummm.. maybe AFTER rush hour!?!? DUH!! I am disgusted, appalled, and many more adjectives and expletives I cannot share here.

Well, maybe the reason the Sun didn't have more details is that the "parade" was pretty lame. It just went by the Charles Center area, and it took about 8 minutes. That was it. A few marching ROTC units and a few motorcycle groups. Really, really, lame for that many road closures. Kind of bizarre, actually.

I just don't get it. We have two stadiums and a convention center, and plenty of parking lot space between the stadiums. Why is it necessary to block streets on days when people work? What is wrong with this city? Doesn't anybody realize if the businesses move out of downtown the city would financially collapse? Yet, instead of having the parade in a residential neighborhood or at the stadiums, they choose to block of major streets in the heart of the business district. For shame, Baltimore, for shame!!
