Bay Bridge suspends 2-way operations -- for now
The Maryland Transportation Authority has suspended two-way operations on the Bay Bridge this afternoon because of rainy weather -- creating the likelihood of eastbound delays during peak travel hours.
The authority normally opens one lane to the westbound span to eastbound traffic to ease the evening commute for residents of the Eastern Shore. But in bad weather, it generally does not permit two-way traffic on that span, restricting eastbound traffic to the two lanes of the original bridge.
The authority said it could reverse the decision if the weather improves. Officials also warned eastbound travelers to exercise caution at exits 28 (Cape Ste. Claire Road) and 29 (Bay Dale Drive) because of standing water in the roadway.

If we had another bridge we would not have this constant traffic nightmare at the Bay Bridge.. Wake up - we have to have another crossing!

No one forced you to commute across the Bay, a sensible person would live closer to work. Imagine if long distance commuters actually had to pay the full costs of highways and bridges, maybe more would reconsider? A third bridge will never make sense.

Jim, a sensible person looks at all the factors before choosing how far he/she lives from work. For example, someone may work in Baltimore City, but may not wish to live there - could be for many reasons (doesn't like the school system, doesn't feel safe, doesn't care for city living, etc.). That same person may not have the considerable monetary means to live in one of the nearby counties. That person may come to the (sensible) decision that Queen Anne's County offers the best combination of affordability, community resources, and proximity to work - even given the factor of a twice-daily trip over a severely congested bridge.
Is it really fair to say that "no one forced you to commute across the Bay"?
