Interstate 68 now open

According to the State Highway Administration, all lanes of Interstate 68 are now open in both directions after being closed because of whiteout conditions near the Allegany-Garrett county line in this morning's snowstorm. The SHA describes driving conditions as "improving but still hazardous."

No coincidence that the snow line closely corresponds to the Allegheny Front.

I encountered a much milder blast of snow a few months back when traveling to New Germany State Park. Weather reported to be snowy in Garrett but was all sun and dry until we passed La Vale, where I won a bet with my girlfriend that that was where the snow would hit. Roads were in good shape, though.

Cumberland is notoriously dry.
