Sold out: Asus Eee Pad Transformer

Apparently today, a new tablet went on sale at Best Buy, and it sold out very quickly, according to Android Police. It's called the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, and it's supposedly an iPad competitor for $399 -- or $100 less than the entry-level iPad 2.

But maybe it sold out so quickly because Best Buy didn't have a lot of them to sell?

Asus is not flooding the U.S. market with these yet, opting instead for a bigger role out in the U.K., according to Android Police. If you have been waiting out on the iPad because you're not impressed with its specs, this Android device -- which runs the Android Honeycomb software version -- has some hardware that the iPad lacks, such as two USB ports and a media card reader. It also hooks up to a keyboard. Clearly, this is meant as another option for a netbook.

I can't find anywhere to order or pre-order one of these at the MSRP. I'm not a big fan of the design of the Acer Iconia so I suppose I'll keep waiting to see if the Asus Transformer finally makes itself available for purchase before something better comes along. The Motorola Xoom is just way too overpriced.

I bought it today and I'm really glad I did. I'm using the remote desktop feature a lot and I can stream any movies, music, anything in real time. It's fast, the screen is sharp and for that price, it will be hard to beat it. It's a great option for people who don't want an iPad 2. I have an iPhone 4 and I love it, but the iPad is more of a toy/gadget than a netbook replacement, which was what I was looking for.

You make it sound as those it has the 2 usb ports on it. Based on my readings elsewhere, the usb ports are on the keyboard accessory which is a $150 more as well as the SD media card reader.

Yes but the tablet (without keyboard) has a MICROSD slot, headphone, and HDMI ports.

MicroSD cards are just as cheap as SD cards- if you add the keyboard you easily triple the storage capacity!

Marketing hype. 20 locations to have it on the shelves and only Amazon has been cited as having available and it only lasted a minute. A couple weeks ago they did the same thing in the UK, instant sell out. Now they'll spend the rest of the year catching up with the artificial "Sell Out" publicity they created.
