List of tablet computers: the iPad's competition

The folks at Webbmedia Group (based in Baltimore!) did all the hard work so you don't have to -- they compiled a list of 30-plus tablet computers, including specifications and features, that are on the market, or soon to hit.

The usual suspects are on there, such as the Apple iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the upcoming RIM/BlackBerry Playbook. But did you also know about the Kno, the Vizio and the LG Optimus?

If you're closely watching the tablet market and are looking for something other than an iPad -- which pretty much IS the tablet market right now -- take a gander below. Thanks for putting this together, Webbmedia.

That tablet roundup is a good start and definitely deserves praise for compiling a list of tablets, but it would be a whole lot more useful if the processors were listed. How can I tell if the thing runs like molasses?

Also it's not accurate. My Galaxy tab has HD video and front and back cameras. None of which is listed in the description.

The Asus EEE Slate (EP121) is oddly missing from that list. It is a tablet just like the others. It does support multi-touch. It also includes a Wacom stylus. The difference between it and the other machines is that it runs Windows 7 using traditional x86 PC hardware. There really isn't anything stopping users from loading Android on it if they really wanted.

I had considered buying an EP121 but I'm going to hang onto my Motion Computing LE1700 for now due to the superior screen resolution. While I'm surprised the EP121 isn't on Webbmedia's list, I'm not surprised that the LE1700 is omitted due to its age.

The last page lists as defunct the HTC tablet. Best Buy just announced the HTC Flyer 7" tablet goes on sale soon (Sprint will sell it as the HTC EVO View 4G). They will both run Android 2.2 Froyo.

Perhaps more focused on the business user than the consumer (but isn't that line blurred now anyway?), add the Cisco Cius to this list.

Glad to see more options.
