iPad 2 review roundup -- so where's mine?

Yours truly isn't on Apple's short list of journalists to get an early review model of the iPad 2, though I don't know why. Instead, we get to read the same stuff from the usual suspects of reviewers who end up holding some sway over those who rush out to buy this device when it first appears (which is tomorrow, March 11).

No knock on Engadget, or Walt Mossberg or David Pogue -- their reviews are informative and well-crafted.

Personally, I'm a fan of John Gruber (Daring Fireball blog) and his thoughtful review of the iPad 2. Gruber really grapples with the issues of hardware, software, industrial design and how we humans interact with devices. And he seems to have some good sources within the Apple fortress who inform his discussion of their products.

Anyhow, maybe I'm cranky today--blame it on the rain. But Apple should do more to get the iPad in the hands of more tech journalists, and not just the usual folks.

Gus,
Any feel for whether or not there will be huge lines/waits for the iPad 2 tomorrow? Will the stores still have them available on Saturday? At the risk of sounding like an Apple fanboy, it would logistically be beneficial to pick one up this weekend before a month of travel. Just want to know what I am up against here.

Gregory, I think if you avoid the Apple store and check out AT&T or Verizon stores, or other places, like Best Buy or Walmart, you might have better luck. -gus

I will trust Ars Technica before I trust Gruber, Mossberg, Pogue (shudder), or BoingBoing in their "reviews" of Apple products. I even trust Engadget reviews before that of Gruber.

Oh, smack! I'd hate to see what you say about me behind my back on other tech blogs. ;-) -gs

Just wanted to share that I too had to wait for my iPad2 but it was worth it. I work in the advance tech support department for DISH Network and I often test out equipment before its release. I've been using my iPad2 with my Sling Adapter so I can relay all of my live programming from home onto my pad. So far it's worked flawlessly and I love the HDMI output. I can choose to connect to a friend's TV and watch all my DISH programming that they don't normally get. I love technology! Hope you're loving yours!
