CrowdPitch comes to Baltimore
FundingUniverse, an organization that helps entrepreneurs analyze their prospects and apply for funding, is hosting a "CrowdPitch" event in Baltimore on Feb. 25th at the University of Maryland BioPark, on the west side of the city.
Basically, entrepreneurs will be able to stand up and give a 4-minute pitch to a panel of judges and an audience.
The panel will ask questions and the audience will be given "fun money" to bet on the entrepreneur whose idea they like.
The two winners will get $10,850 worth of services from the event's sponsors.
(The services seem like they'd come in quite handy, too, if you're just starting out with your business plan.)
Any Baltimore-area entrepreneurs thinking about attending, either to participate or watch?

I just found out about this (thanks Gus) so I am hoping to be able to make it. My young company is called ProofTrader. It is a stock picking website and community blog where users contribute blog-style articles paired to predictions about stocks. Over time they receive a 1-100 score representing how good their picks were.
We hope to allow people to share their stock ideas, participate in a dialogue, and also for some, get over any trepidation they feel about directly managing their own IRAs or 401ks or stock accounts. So many people have these but pay almost no attention to them, and it's because they don't feel they know enough.
Although our community is not made up of professional analysts, that's the point. You don't need a finance degree to pick winning stocks.

So are the companies who go to this all tech-related? It doesn't seem to say on the page, but the sponsors' names sound like they're all Web-based.

Gus, I'm intrigued by this and am planning to attend to see who else turns up!

Nice to see that a UT based company liked the Social Matchbox format that has been running since 2007 here. I suppose imitation is the finest form of flattery. Instead, we will be attending Tech Journal South's Southeast Venture Conference over in Tyson's Corner on the day of the event along with the rest of the Mid-Atlantic startup community.
